PSP Go ‘relaunch’ in the works?

There’s not much to go on here, but according to alleged sources of Gamervision , Sony’s planning a relaunch of sorts for the PSP Go . The oft-maligned portable hasn’t exactly taken the world by storm — and with its lack of an UMD drive, despite the company’s continued support of the format, that arguably wasn’t the point of its existence, anyway. An apparent marketing blitz is in the cards (unsurprising), and additionally there’s speculation that a price drop might be coming, too. That seems a bit early given it only launched back in October, but if the company’s really wanting to get aggressive and pushing units of its admittedly pretty hardware , that’s a pretty good way to do so. Then again, its hands might be full adding some vigor to its other gaming machine.

Android 2.0.1 dual-boot XPERIA X1 hack [Video]

Over at xda-developers they’re pathologically addicted to getting software to run on devices it was never intended to, and fed up of waiting for Sony Ericsson’s debut into the Android ecosystem, the XPERIA X10 , they’ve focused instead on getting Android onto an earlier phone.  Normally the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 is found playing nicely with Windows Mobile, but you can now dual-boot it with that and Android 2.0.1. There’s apparently been a fair bit of customization to get it all up and running with the X1’s hardware, but the touchscreen works and it’s not as sluggish as some hacks we’ve seen.  So far everything bar the Bluetooth, camera, GPS and LCD auto-brightness function, but it’s still a work in progress

Foil impressioning defeats security locks

Apparently it’s been around for fifteen years but using foil impressions to pick locks is new to us. This is similar to using bump keys but it works on locks that are supposedly much more secure. This method uses a heavy gauge aluminum foil to grab and hold the pins in the correct place for the lock to be turned. The foil is folded over and slits are cut where each pin will fall

Firefox fires up on Android

It’s not quite ready for an alpha release, but it’s nice to know that development of Firefox on Android has progressed to the stage where they’ve actually got a screenshot. [via AndroidCentral ] You’ll note that this is the full Firefox interface, and not the Fennec/Firefox Mobile UI; we’re testing with the full interface because it’s significantly more complex than the mobile UI and stresses Gecko much more. So, if the full UI works, then Fennec should work fine as well. Given the interest in Android on netbook and tablet devices, an updated version of the full Firefox UI might find a home on some of these.

Prepeat: The Inkless Printer That Can Erase and Rewrite Documents

Called Prepeat, this inkless and tonerless printer can write, erase, and then rewrite documents using a special thermal process along with plastic paper. Unfortunately, “each printer comes with a price tag of about $5,517 (500,000 yen), and the plastic sheets come in lots of 1,000 at the price of $3,300.” Video after the break. Such a hefty price tag means that only large paper-users might consider PrePeat. Smaller offices and individual consumers will likely stick with their old-fashioned printer and paper combos for now. The rest of the world is catching on rapidly but overall, Japan is still the world’s most advanced society mobile society . That being said, you’d assume that the first 4G (LTE) device to get an official certification from Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications must be coming from one of the many mobile companies over here, but it was South Korea’s LG who got the bragging rights [KR] for that today. Arduino powered laser trigger for your camera

You can make a camera trigger without a micro controller , but this system allows you to easily add sensors or variable timers, making it extremely flexible. [Thanks Haje] There are loads of reasons for why you could want to trigger your camera remotely – to avoid camera shake, for example, or to be able to take a photograph of yourself without having to rely on a timer. If you want to build more ambitious projects, however, you may have to consider getting more exotic.
