Notion Ink clinch final investment; new hardware being considered

Having been the subject of speculation over potential launch delays over the weekend , we caught up with Notion Ink founder Rohan Shravan today to find out exactly where the Adam tablet project is up to.  Turns out, Rohan’s team are celebrating today as they’ve just clinched their final round of investment; they can’t tell us the identity of the investors themselves, but it sets them up for potentially producing around 100,000 Adam units per month.  Meanwhile there are whispers about new hardware options; more on that after the cut.

Would you buy a voice-controlled camera, or perhaps a DSLR with touchsceen?

Do you talk to your digital camera? Perhaps stroke its glossy LCD? If a pair of recent patent applications are any indication, those mildly creepy gestures might one day actually do something.

HTC EVO 4G meets magnetic macro lens, shoots gorgeous closeups

As phone accessories go, protruding lens attachments are rarely top of our wishlist , but this one here might just alter our perspective a little bit. Good and EVO have gone to the trouble of obtaining a magnetically mountable macro lens to test out how well the EVO 4G ‘s camera performs with a little more optical prowess. The answer is that in spite of the inevitably goofy appearance, the jumbo Android handset delivered some highly impressive imagery, getting really up close and personal with its subjects and picking out exquisitely tiny details

GM follows Ford, brings Google Maps to OnStar eNav systems

Monkey see, monkey do — right? All jesting aside, you can’t help but chuckle over the timing here. Merely 24 hours after Ford announced that a Send to SYNC feature would allow motorists to beam Google Maps directions over Bluetooth to existing SYNC navigation systems, in flies General Motors with an eerily similar release.

Jobs “freedom from porn” iPad quote prompts billboard hacking [Video]

When Steve Jobs said that the iPad offered “Freedom from porn” last month, it was just the latest in a series of digs against rival platforms – Android, PCs – that allow risque content to be viewed.  The Apple CEO probably didn’t expect it to kick start a guerilla street art campaign, though; that, however, is exactly what has happened .  Apple adverts near the Moscone center where Apple held their WWDC 2010 keynote earlier this week were modified using self-adhesive overlays that changed the generic content into something a little more smutty. Video after the cut Rather than showing regular Facebook pages, email inboxes and websites, the tampered adverts showed spam-filled “Hotties near you!” messages and even a fake Steve Jobs profile in which he apparently raved about new 3D adult content.  The creators even made sure to match up the fingers correctly, so at first glance you might mistake them for the real thing.

Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock axe gets the fingers-on treatment (video)

We saw this flame-adorned guitar imitator in pictorial form just a couple of days ago , but now the GH: Warriors of Rock controller has been investigated in full detail and on video. Notable changes include an easier to hit star power button, a flanged strum bar, and the replacement of the touch pad on the neck with a battery compartment (which will store the Wii Remote on that console’s version). See if it lives to up to its promise of being a shredder’s best friend in the video after the break.

Chin Hua solar glass generates electricity, lets (most of) the sun shine in

Putting solar panels on the roof will do your energy bill a lot of good, but won’t necessarily help any other aspect of your house. Install a fleet of solar windows, however, and you could have more natural light to go right along with your additional enviro-smugness

LuminAR digital desk-lamp packs pico, camera & gesture UI [Video]

We’ve seen combinations of pico-projectors and cameras used for new interface systems before – perhaps most memorably the wearable “Sixth Sense” computer – but MIT Media Lab researcher’s Natan Linder’s LuminAR is perhaps the first to include an angle-poise robot too.  At its core, the “LuminAR bulb” is a pico-projector, a camera and the necessary electronics combined into a standard screw-mount, capable of projecting an interface onto your table or wall and tracking touch and motion gestures you make toward it.

Sprint misstated EVO 4G sales, by a lot

Remember when Sprint said this : “The total number of HTC EVO 4G devices sold on launch day was three times the number of Samsung Instinct and Palm Pre devices sold over their first three days on the market combined.” Nuh uh, it’s wrong. Sprint just issued a correction in the wee hours stating that first day EVO 4G sales were, in reality, “in line with” the number of Instincts and Pres sold over their first three days on the market combined

Sony’s value-minded A290 DSLR gets official, drags big bro A390 on stage

Sony’s A290 DSLR may not have been the hottest of this summer’s Vietnamese leaks, but nevertheless it was about a month ago that the entry-level shooter was spied over there , and now we know when it’ll be coming over here — roughly, at least. Sony has made the 14.2 megapixel A290 official, along with its A390 sibling. Both offer Memory Stick and SDHC storage, HDMI output, and 2.7-inch LCDs, but only the A390′s does that groovy tilt and swivel thing.

metaio’s Zombie ShootAR is augmented reality shooter game for select Nokia smartphones

Just when we thought metaio (and Layar for that matter) has forgotten about Symbian S60 users, the maker of junaio blessed Nokia ( NYSE: NOK )’s Ovi Store with augmented reality game – Zombie ShootAR. As you can guess for yourself, it [game] utilizes the camera live-stream for optical tracking and 3D rendering to create an interactive experience. Don’t expect too much though. metaio describes it as an “early example of this new category of augmented reality games” and in that sense Zombie ShootAR can be seen as a “true milestone.” I’m not excited about the game at all.
