Nokia Makes Ovi Files Free!

Nokia has eliminated the monthly subscription for anytime files on their Ovi Files service! The pricing used to be a monthly fee, with the option for either a 10GB or 30GB bucket of online storage. Nokia Ovi Files provides 10GB of complementary service, which is certainly much appreciated. Ovi Files is the result of Nokia’s purchase of Avvenu . Basically, there is a PC -based (Windows only, unfortunately) Ovi Files Agent that runs on your connected computers, constantly synchronizing files with the online server.

The mobile device for the past few years has become something more, it has become a means for entertainment be it through music, videos, internet, or games. While I have been able to enjoy music, gaming and web on various Nokia’s I never really got into watching videos/movies simply being that I did not have a solid program to encode video. I tried multiple programs including the one provided by Nokia in its PC Suite and had a miserable time. I was looking for a program that would satisfy three criteria; ease of use, advanced features for customizability, and quick encoding.

Conficker C: Wild West Meets IT Security

A computer-science wild west story is playing out on the Internet as security experts try to hunt down a worm called Conficker C and prevent it from damaging millions of computers on April Fool’s Day. The anti-worm researchers have come together to search for the malicious software program’s author and for ways to do damage control if he or she can’t be stopped. They’re motivated in part by a $250,000 bounty from Microsoft. The program could delete all of the files on a person’s computer, use zombie PCs to overwhelm and shut down Web sites or monitor a person’s keyboard strokes to collect private information like passwords or bank account information. Does this mean we shouldn’t log onto the Internet on April’s Fools Day?

Duplicating a key from a photograph

CNet news warn you not to flash your keys in public. Computer scientists at the University of California at San Diego have developed software that can make a duplicate of a key from just a distant photo of it using technology available to almost anyone. Referred to as Sneakey , the system is capable of “teleduplication–extracting a key’s complete and precise bitting code at a distance via optical decoding and then cutting precise duplicates,” according to Sneakey’s Web site.
