Ditch your landline for the netTALK TK6000
I’ve wanted to ditch my analog phone for years now, but keep holding on to it due to the fact that I have a T1 line in my home and it’s needed for support reasons. If I didn’t need that line, I’d definitely consider the TK6000 from netTALK . Unlike some VOIP (Voice over IP) products such as the Magic Jack, the netTALK is a one time only purchase of about $100, with no monthly fees. A computer isn’t needed, just plug the module into your broadband router and into a regular landline phone and you’re ready for free local and long distance calls within the US and … [ visit site to read more ] Filed in categories: Home Tech , News , Spotlight Gadgets Tagged: VoIP Ditch your landline for the netTALK TK6000 originally appeared on The Gadgeteer on February 1, 2010 at 12:41 pm.

Protecting the enterprise from mobile devices
As often happens with electronics trends, the proliferation of a consumer device soon results in that gadget knocking on the door to the enterprise. That’s the case with smartphones. The trend started with the Blackberry, was supercharged by the iPhone and will continue to grow with phones running Google’s Android operating system. What’s worrisome about these devices is that they run applications… far too many applications that any IT department could vet for security purposes. Jupiter Research, purchased by Forrester research in 2008, estimates that by 2014, 20 billion apps will be downloaded annually to smartphones.

Saddleback Leather Company Mouse Pad Review
To be honest, I have not used a mouse pad in years at either home or work. I walked through my floor at work and found that about one out of 20 were using a mouse pad. With the advent of the laser mouse and the roller ball a thing of the past, mouse pad use is definitely on the decline. I know a few people who still use them to express themselves, but that is about it. Saddleback Leather is bucking that trend and is offering up an extremely well made leather mouse pad that is equal in quality to their other high-end leather products.

Is social networking less safe, or are users more stupid?
The summary of a new report into online security, the full version of which will be available tomorrow, suggest that social networks are less safe than a year ago. However, I am wondering if the fact is that the collection of its users are just more careless / stupid. Security firm Sophos reckons there has been a 70% rise in attacks on social network sites, while nearly three out of four companies think workers’ behaviour online puts their business at risk. Three out of five users say they have been spammed via social networking sites, while one in three says they’ve been sent malware: both up around 70% on last year

Consumer 10.0: Web service can help cut monthly cell phone bills
Dissatisfied wireless customers got their due last week. After years of complaints about early-termination fees, the Federal Communications Commission finally showed signs of a serious inquiry into the charges. And the shortcomings of AT&T Wireless’ network, familiar to disgruntled iPhone users, drew wide attention for an ironic reason: Apple’s decision to stick with AT&T when it launches its eagerly awaited iPad mobile computer this spring. But today’s column isn’t about dissatisfied wireless customers. It’s about the vast majority of the nation’s 276 million wireless subscribers who are at least modestly happy with a technology that has changed so many aspects of their day-to-day lives
