We start our early morning ( or late night ), with yet another official announcement, sort of. Tapani Kaskinen, Nokia’s Senior Communications Manager, spoke today about the Nokia N8 release date. It seems that this smartphone is expected to hit shores on September 30. Until now, September was the rumored month for the launch date,

Until the end of the year, Nokia is still prepared 10 more phone
Until the end of the year, Nokia still spend about 5 to 10 new products in order the cell phone market share is not eroded. Competition in the mobile industry is extremely tight to make the company must release a minimum of two products per month. This fierce competition has been underway since last year. In addition, Nokia also had to adjust to the needs of both markets and new users who want to

And it finally sinks in. The Nokia N8 camera really is in a class all of its own
Technical specifications and bullet points can only get you so far, but when it comes to photography and video capture all of that stuff should kneel in submission at the feet of real life examples. I’m not talking about a quick snap taken on the trade show floor, or a video of some chap’s dog sniffing around a filthy back yard in the middle of nowhere (someone really did try to pass that off as an N8 video!), I’m referring to someone who actually cares enough to show what the N8 can really do

New official N8 video sample. And yes, it’s as smooth as silk!
It’s here! The second official HD video sample from Nokia. Interestingly, this second sample, shot at a skate event in Helsinki, is almost the exact opposite of the first clip. The first clip was all about detail , this clip is all about motion. In video, one of my personal irritations is dropped frames.

The Nokia N8 Photo Awards. Please help to spread the word
If there is one Nokia related activity that I am most proud of it is the creation and promotion of the Nokia N95 Flickr User Group . For many years it was the largest Flickr group dedicated to a single smartphone. As of today, it has about 2000 members and a collection of over 21,000 photos! Amongst those 21,000 photos are some of the best smartphone photos you will ever come across, the creativity and skill of some of the more experienced N95 users still amazes me. Starting in September 2007 and ending in July 2009, The Nokia Creative N95 Photos Awards highlighted some of the most impressive shots from the group. It was used countless times to justify the purchase of Nokia’s best smartphone

Is ‘Nokia’ no longer good enough for Nokia?
To be fair, the Nokia brand has taken a bit of a beating in the last year. As senior management have admitted, Nokia’s lateness in bringing a true iPhone competitor to market has cost the company considerable kudos. Despite this the Nokia brand name is still associated with quality, hardware innovation and value for money. This makes me wonder why Nokia insist on naming important Nokia created property with different branding

Paranoid About Android
Apparently it’s already over. Google won and everyone else, including the world’s largest smartphone manufacturer, can pack up and go home. That seems to be the general feeling around the internet right now. Last year Android was an interesting geek phone OS, this year it has become all things to everyone, or so we are told

More Leaked N9 Pictures Surface
One of the N9′s latest leaked pics. It’s that time again: time for new spy shots of that ever-elusive N9. Nokia hasn’t officially announced the N9 yet, although considering the quality on these leaked pics, that could be soon. And right now, the N9 looks like it’s got potential

Nokia N8. Blu-ray killer and all round HD hero
I don’t own a Blu-ray player, to be totally honest I simply don’t believe the platform has a future and every time I look at my DVD collection I’m reminded of the foolishness of collecting physical media. Streaming video is ultimately how all video will be distributed. Local storage will be for temporary archiving and not something intended for longterm ownership. In this new world of online video delivery what is needed is a pocketable media player, one that can output in HD with surround sound and one that can playback a large variety of file types

Verizon Wireless subscribers have a tough choice when it comes to choosing between the Motorola DROID 2 and the Motorola DROID X. The two high-end smartphones have quite a bit in common — including the same 1 GHz processor, 512MB of RAM, and the same modified Google experience. Review: Griffin Reveal Etch Case for iPhone 4
“Antenna-gate” and Apple’s Free Case Program have made many of us think about cell phone cases more than we ever dreamed we would. So many styles and concepts to choose from — and more importantly, price ranges too. Yes, it is possible to spend $90 or upwards on a case for a $200 smart phone. With that in mind, I take a look at the Griffin Reveal Etch, the free iPhone case I received from Apple. Sony Ericsson W995a Cell Phone Review–Better Than Expected
We’ve got another Sony Ericsson to talk about, and they’ve brought us a lot of interesting models over the last few months. Will they be able to do anything interesting with the Sony Ericsson W995a? Let’s have a look! The Sony Ericsson W995a is a slider style cell phone with conference call capability, speakerphone, Wi-Fi, a composer system to make your own music, stereo speakers, direct printing (yes! direct printing! You can actually print stuff off your cell phone by hooking it into a printer!), a hundred and eighteen gigs of memory (which is comparable to some older desktop computers), mobile web, mobile email, video calling services, Java application capability, a variety of downloadable content like games, ring tones and audio and video files, an eight megapixel camera with 16x digital zoom, face detection and automatic focus, alarm clock, calendar, basic calculator, MP3 player, a 3.5 mm headset jack, and a battery capable of yielding nine hours of talk time on one charge. There’s a lot of good things to say about the Sony Ericsson W995a–there are plenty of features here, the battery life is unbelievably long…in fact, about the only bad thing about it is that the controls were a little tricky to start with. I had a rough time finding my way around, but it didn’t take long to get used to it. And chances are you won’t have too much trouble with it either. The Sony Ericsson W995a is great phone with lots of options, and though the controls are a little balky to begin with, you won’t have trouble for long. This may not be an iPhone killer, but it’s worth your time to check out
