Well, if you’re one of those folks who feel that LG could have done a better job with the Eve, then maybe this latest bit of news will cheer you up. LG is reportedly working on the Eve’s successor and one of its main upgrades will be a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. Yup, you read that right boys and gals

Verizon has just announced the HTC Droid Eris, their second Android phone next to the Motorola Droid . The HTC Droid Eris features a 3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen, 5-megapixel autofocus camera, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, full HTML browser with Flash Lite support, 3.5mm jack, HTC Sense UI, and comes pre-installed with an 8GB microSD card. They didn’t go into detail as to what version of Android is running on the Droid Eris, but a prior report suggests that Android 1.5 is its bundled OS. That’s the real deal breaker in the whole package

Announced last month, the HTC HD2 has been overshadowed by the recent launch of new Android devices such as the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 and the Motorola Droid , but for those loyal fans of the HD2, listen up as we’ve got some good news for you. HTC has announced that they’ve begun shipping the HD2 to Europe and Asia with the US scheduled for early 2010. While that may bit of a downer, that’s still good news considering that the original HTC Touch HD didn’t even manage to land in the North American market. A price and possible carrier who might offer up this behemoth of a touchscreen phone wasn’t mentioned, but they did hint that a “ major US carrier ” will debut it in the country. If the rumors are to be believed, T-Mobile is the particular carrier being alluded to here.

The entry of Sony Ericsson into the Android scene with the debut of the XPERIA X10 is truly worth celebrating. However, what’s even more exciting is news that their new UX interface and Mediascape and Timescape apps won’t be exclusive to this particular XPERIA phone only. Electricpig got a chance to chat with Steve Walker, head of Sony Ericsson Portfolio Planning, and he revealed that the UX interface will actually be released on their future Symbian-based devices as well. Here’s what he shares about their new offerings, and the Android and Symbian platform: We do intend products on Android and on Symbian. The intention is to not be specifically related to one particular platform…it’s not the right time to bet on any particular horse

Think back to last year’s holiday season. Does it seem as though there are several more touchscreen phones available or announced this year than there were last year? It’s not an illusion; according to comScore there are 24 million touchscreen devices in use within the United States, a 159 percent growth year-over-year from last year at this time. That is a huge rate of expansion for a US cell phone market that has historically been slower to adopt new trends and technology than overseas markets in Asia or Europe

The IBM Simon first shown in 1992 was the world’s first smartphone. It had all the basics like smartphones have today including a calendar, contacts, clock, and notepad and most important to every person on the go, email. But the smartphone actually didn’t reach large public sales till the 1996 release of the Nokia Communicator line of phones. Seen as a take-with-you-anywhere device within the enterprise segment, this communications tool did not become popular until the larger expansion of Microsoft Exchange and Activesync products. IBM Simon in Charging Station Microsoft Exchange, first released with the Windows 95 operating system was Microsoft’s first module in charge of handling email. This would later become an important tool for companies to manage emails and other collaborative tools within their company network and would grow in popularity as an industry standard overtaking the former industry leader Lotus Notes in 1997 . Microsoft Exchange would later introduce a mobile option called Activesync which was released in 1996.

Touchscreen phones are becoming more and more popular with each month that passes by, and the latest survey unveiled by Canalys shows that more than 50% of consumers want their next phone to have a touch-based UI – well, at least in Western Europe (more exactly in France, Germany and the UK). The survey shows that, from over 3,000 phone users, 38% would prefer a finger-based touchscreen phone, while 16% want a stylus-based touchscreen phone. However, from the customers who have tried a touchscreen UI, only 47% would choose it again for their next phone. Interestingly, most of those who tried touchscreen phones from Apple and HTC want to continue with touch UIs, while only 27% of the users who had Sony Ericsson touchscreen phones would stick to the same type of UI. “The results suggest that consumer awareness of touchscreen UIs is very high, driven by the marketing of Apple, Samsung and others, and there is no doubt that the changes in device design we have seen over the past couple of years have produced some very exciting products

It’s easy for people who have been in marketing a long time, especially digital marketing, to make claims that mobile marketing is a waste of time. MobileStorm CEO Jared Reitzen put up a passionate post earlier this week confronting the prejudice against mobile marketing among e-mail marketers. One of the biggest problems with email marketing is the turnover rate of email addresses. Within one year 33% of email addresses in your campaign list are no longer valid. Cell phone numbers have a far lower turnover rate, and most people keep their cell phone number for life.
