Google Maps Updated to 4.2.0 – With Cycling Directions!

With a  large leap from 4.0.2 to 4.2.0, Google Maps was updated today to include a few interesting and exciting new features.  Download it here .  Included are the following: I’m not positive about whether or not I have some functional issues or the application does, but with the new share places feature, when I select SMS, it opens up a blank SMS window without an address or any content in it.  I’m not sure how it’s supposed to work exactly, but if that’s in error, I hope it will be fixed shortly. The bicycle instructions are a neat new function for you BlackBerry bicyclists!  The only downfall of that new function is that it only work in the US.  You can go from Milinocket, Maine to Chula Vista, California.  An easy, breezy 5,615 km trip.  However try making the gruelling 200 km trek from Vancouver to Seattle and it says you can’t!  Just beware.  If you intend on using these cycling directions to get yourself hurt, wait your turn, there’s already someone else who is faulting Google for their own lack of common sense

BlackBerry Curve 9300 Faces the Camera – Will replace 8500 series with 3G and Wi-Fi

The BlackBerry Curve 9300 was talked about earlier in April, and now its showing its face on the internet. The Curve 9300 will be the direct replacement for the Curve 8500 series. The new updated version will add 3G and Wi-Fi, and keep the overall same body (and display resolution, we think). It’s also expected a 9330 model will be available for CDMA networks like Sprint and Verizon.

Microsoft KIN Two Preview

We’ve only been using the Microsoft KIN Two for about half a day. Even though that isn’t enough time to put a comprehensive review together, we can still comment on our initial reactions about the device. The Microsoft KIN One and KIN Two are aimed at a non-professional crowd, mostly the young Justin Bieber generation. For phones in this category, they definitely do pack a punch. For starters, there is Microsoft Exchange support (no calendar support), an 8 megapixel camera with 720p video capture, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a slide-out QWERTY keyboard and all the social networking integration you could want

Confirmed: BlackBerry two-way sync for Gmail is now live

We’ve just heard from the boys and girls at RIM that the company did, in fact, deploy the long-awaited two-way Gmail synchronization capability to North American BIS users this week. What does that mean, exactly? Well, it means that if you’ve got a BlackBerry on any North American carrier that isn’t going through BES, Gmail should behave more like it should — deleted items will disappear from your phone, emails read elsewhere will show up as read on the device, and you’ll have access to all of your sent items

CardStar Saves Loyalty Cards on BlackBerry and Android

CardStar launched an app for iPhone last summer that allowed you to store all of your loyalty card info on your phone, knocking down the girth of your wallet considerably, and now it’s available on Android and BlackBerry ( NSDQ: RIMM ) handsets. By punching in your membership number, the app generates a barcode that vendors can then scan to get your points/Air Miles/discount/whatever.  Extra information, like account information, website, phone number, store locations, and support can also be included from the vendor side – Blockbuster, Best Buy, Delta, PetSmart, and Staples are just some of the chains that have hooked up with CardStar. Participating partners will also occasionally offer coupons and deals to customers who use the app – not a bad incentive at all! It sounds like an extremely useful (and simple) app with plenty of potential

Umbro Look to set Record on Foursquare

Foursquare is a mobile service that recently has started to gain a lot of popularity with a certain section of mobile users. You may well have seen various updates from friends on Facebook and Twitter detailing places where they have just ‘checked in’ to. By checking in at various locations you can earn ‘badges’ through the foursquare service; check in more than anyone else and you can become ‘Mayor’ of that location. Whilst these rewards are fun, there are other points with foursquare – by seeing where friends have just checked in to, you will know if they are in the local area to you, so you can catch up with each other

Using your BlackBerry to help with travel plans

Summer lies just around the corner, and I couldn’t be happier. While it does bring more tourists to the city, it also means lighter commutes, fewer people at the office, and of course sunshine and warmth. This all relates to summer travel plans.

iPad Konkurrenz wächst: RIM Blackberry Tablet “BlackPad” in 2011?

We’ve received word from a connect that RIM is in fact working on a tablet.
