Might The BlackBerry Storm 3 Function As A Wi-Fi HotSpot?
Engadget was able to get their hands on, what looks like a training document for the upcoming “Oden Refresh”, possibly the BlackBerry Storm3, which appears to be a minor refresh of the BlackBerry Storm2. Notable updates include: New Refreshed UI (BlackBerry 6) WebKit browser 512 MB Ram and up to 32 GB media card 5 MP camera World Edition phone 802.11n Wifi 3G mobile hotspot To be completely honest, I hope that the Storm3 does have Wi-Fi tethering. Less, tethering, I am hard pressed to find any reason to move to this device if you already have a Storm2, unless, BlackBerry 6 is a memory hog and 256 MB isn’t enough memory to run BB6 effectively.

A slide detailing some specs of the upcoming BlackBerry Storm 3 has leaked. The Storm 3 is set to be a rather minor refresh of the Storm 2 , so don’t expect anything too groundbreaking. The Storm 3 will double the Storm 2′s amount of RAM to 512 MB, the camera will be 5 Megapixels compared to 3.15. Also, the new Storm will come with WiFi 802.11 n support.

British Airways Updates Mobile App
With all the talk in the last few days surrounding the flaws in the design of the iPhone 4 antenna, it is easy to begin to overlook the positive impact that the iPhone in all its guises has had on the mobile industry as a whole. The iPhone is mainly responsible for kick-starting the whole mobile application industry, delivering bright, colourful applications that were easy to browse, purchase and install. Apple do receive criticism for the way they control the whole App Store experience, but the quality control is something that helps deliver a consistently high level user experience across all applications. Apps come in many forms, from games to useful utilities, and businesses are starting to see the benefit of giving access to their content on the move, and recently British Airways updated their iPhone app, and have also made it accessible to users of Android devices and RIM BlackBerry handsets, too.

RIM Updates Locate Service Introducing Geoloaction Using Cell Tower Triangulation To Developers
Research in Motion has introduced a new feature in its Locate Service offering cell tower geolocation capability to developers for free. Users can be indoors with no GPS coverage, but your app will still be able to guide them to restaurants or points of interest (POI) around them. Although the accuracy of the fixes obtained from the Geolocation service may not always be as high as with GPS, it has use cases for apps that require highly accurate GPS fixes as well as apps that do not. Apps that require high accuracy can use this service to quickly show the user an approximate location while it waits for a more accurate location fix using GPS.

Apple AntennaGate Fallout
Following on from the Apple press conference on Friday, it seems that Apple have ruffled the feathers of rival manufacturers, by trying to implement them in the issue of reception problems. You may recall, that during the conference, Apple’s CEO Steve Jobs came out to defend the iPhone 4 , amongst growing criticism of the iPhone Death Grip, where holding the iPhone 4 in a particular way can lead to signal going from full bars to no bars in a matter of seconds. One response from Apple to this problem is to admit to a flaw in the software algorithm that calculates signal strength, which has been dealt with by a software update that was rolled out via iTunes last week. Despite going on to say that less than 1% of all calls to Apple Care regarding the iPhone 4 related to signal problems, Apple acknowledge that where problems exist, encasing the handset in a case, or Bumper can help, so promise to be giving out free cases and Bumpers for the iPhone 4 up until 30th September. What happens then remains to be seen.
