First hands-on with BlackBerry Pearl2 9100 (Code-Name Stricker)
It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything about the next generation BlackBerry Pearl (code-named Stratus and/or Striker). But today today two different sites leaked details on this hot un-released device! Both CrackBerry and Salomondrin got hands-on time with the new Pearl2. Basically this device will feature an optical trackpad (like most new BlackBerry devices), of course Suretype QWERTY keyboard, along with a more BlackBerry Bold2/Storm2 kind of style. It’s going to be really small, and really thin, and it almost makes me want to use a Pearl again

Colorware Parts Only Service for BlackBerry Curve 8900 – Custom Painted, You Install.
You remember Colorware? It’s the site where you can give not only your BlackBerry, but tons of other devices a custom paint job. Well generally the custom paint job for a BlackBerry costs around $159 USD, and you have to send it to them. Well Colorware has introduced a parts only service for those feeling curious. Basically Colorware’s parts only service means you buy the pieces, and they’ll ship them to you for you to install

Create your own themes with BlackBerry Theme Studio
As mentioned in yesterday’s theme review post , RIM recently released BlackBerry Theme Studio, an application which allows anyone to create new BlackBerry themes. While we’ll always appreciate the work of the professional designers who create vibrant premium themes, we also know that many people have an idea for the perfect theme in their heads. I know I do. There have been a few themes that have come close to that, but none have been the perfect Joe Theme

AT&T, Is This The Best You Could Come Up With?
Seriously AT&T… Verizon is squarely hitting you in the mouth with their “Map for That” Ad campaign. If you are going to enter that dangerous ground of responding to your competition directly with a commercial of your own that is clearly a response to them hitting you in the mouth, you’ve got to come with something stronger than this… There is no fair fighting in marketing. When someone hits you in the mouth you hit them back in the mouth and knee them in the stomach… Unless, of course, what they are saying is essentially true… [#FAIL] AT&T, Is This The Best You Could Come Up With? is a post from: RIMarkable

AT&T Loses Request For Injunction Against Verizon “Map For That” Ads
Chances are that by now you’ve seen one of the Verizon “Map for That” Ads that clearly are a thorn in AT&T’s side as for late. Back at the beginning of the month AT&T filed a lawsuit against Verizon seeking an injunction against advertisements they claim are false advertising and deceptive trade practices. Verizon changed a few words, however, the advertising continued.

Millennial Releases October “SMART” Report
Millennial Media, the leading mobile ad-network who just scored a $16M round of funding , has released its October “SMART” report, or “Scorecard for Mobile Advertising Reach and Targeting.” This month’s report includes a special section dedicated to analyzing the reach, platforms and CTR data associated with mobile apps. Though you can probably guess who dominates the mobile app landscape, the data still includes some interesting tidbits. According to the report, Apple dominated the number of total apps year-to-date with 115,00, as well as total app downloads with 100M. In addition, Apple users downloaded roughly 11 apps per month- three times more than Android users and six times more than Blackberry users. More interesting though, was that while Apple led with the most entertainment and book apps year-to-date, Android dominated the games category with 32 percent of apps. In terms of total app downloads, the Android platform accounted for some 20M, while Blackberry users only downloaded 300K. While Apple’s downloads are still five times that of Androids, it still shows how quickly Android is catching on

TwitterBerry changes name to OpenBeak
It was barely a month ago that we re-reviewed TwitterBerry . We originally reviewed it in early 2008, but the company behind it, Orangatame, brought it up to date, adding many features that users demanded. Unfortunately, TwitterBerry is no more. Orangatame has changed the name to OpenBeak in hopes that it “allows the app to grow beyond both the Twitter platform and BlackBerry smartphones.” With the name change comes a few new features, including two that I had complained about in the TwitterBerry review.

BlackBerry IM Clients Updated To Version 2.5.30
Research in Motion has updated all of its BlackBerry Instant Messaging clients, AIM, ICQ, Yahoo! Messenger, MSN Messenger, and Google Talk to version 2.5.30. RIM is very Googlelike in the sense that they don’t supply change notes when they update these apps so, if you notice any differences, leave us a comment and let us know what’s changed. All of the BlackBerry IM Clients are free BlackBerry downloads and if you don’t already have an installer icon for them on your device you can pick them up on BlackBerry App World or OTA by visiting mobile.blackberry.com from your device. Change your “A” , “W”, and “Q” speed dials
One thing I noticed after getting my BlackBerry Tour is that there are three keys which you cannot assign a speed dial. Holding down the “A” key locks the system, holding down “W” goes to voice mail, and holding down “Q” puts you into quiet mode (vibrate only). These can be convenient, but for someone who had older operating systems and were used to having these keys available, it can be a slight nuisance

BlackBerry Users Suffer Worldwide BIS Outage
There were numerous reports yesterday from BlackBerry users around the world that they weren’t able to send and receive emails, PINs, or use BlackBerry Messenger. It would appear that there was a massive worldwide BlackBerry Internet Service outage yesterday affecting, pretty much, everyone. As many outages as RIM has had you would think that they would be better at handling them then they are. Notifiy your customer base. Let BlackBerry users know that there is something going wrong and that you are working to correct the problem. You have an official BlackBerry blog for crying out loud. There is no doubt that just about every BlackBerry blog out there is going to have something about your BIS outage posted today. It makes no sense that your own blog says nothing. The BIS outage itself makes you look bad. Being so closed lipped about it makes you look inept

AT&T BlackBerry Bold 9700 Available To Business Customers
We knew that the T-Mobile BlackBerry Bold 9700 was going to be released today, however, we didn’t know that AT&T was going to make the BlackBerry Bold 9700 available to business customers as well. The device is now available on the AT&T Premier site. If you aren’t an AT&T business customer you only have to wait about a week as the BlackBerry Bold 9700 will be generally available on AT&T November 22nd.

Making the font smaller on your BlackBerry Tour
What at one point appeared to be another frustrating BlackBerry weekend turned into a pleasant surprise. After upgrading the BlackBerry WordPress app , I rebooted my Curve, as required. The next time I checked it, it was frozen. I rebooted again, but soon found myself in the same situation as a few weeks ago, when my Curve died . This time I took it to the Verizon store, knowing that even if I fixed it again, I’d get the same problem again eventually.

TwitterBerry Gets A Name Change… Now Called OpenBeak
One of the first and most popular BlackBerry Twitter clients that seems like it has been around forever is TwitterBerry . With the release of the latest version, Orangatame Software, the company behind TwitterBerry, has changed the name of the application. Forevermore, TwitterBerry will known as OpenBeak . Personally, I like the name TwitterBerry since it pretty much tells you exactly what the applications is and does. My guess, however, is that the name change comes because of trademarked name infringments. Research in Motion doesn’t allow any applications with the word “Berry” in their name on BlackBerry Appworld. OpenBeak features include: Post updates to Twitter, including a character countdown from 140 characters One-click access to view friends timelines, replies, your favorites, your own timeline, and the public timeline Post pictures to Zannel , TwitPic , Twitgoo , or yfrog Take a picture with a one-click embedded camera (BlackBerry® Device Software version 4.6+) Reply to tweets from each timeline view Send and receive direct messages Mark tweets as favorites Notification icon that indicates the number of unread messages, like new emails or missed calls (BlackBerry® Device Software version 4.6+) Cache all avatar images to internal memory, thus saves network access and helps faster loading Search Twitter with a keyword or from a list of currently trending topics Active text recognition of @usernames and #hashtags New Setup wizard Two modes of list views: a “fixed height” view and a “variable height” view OpenBeak is a free BlackBerry application and you can pick it up OTA by pointing your devices BlackBerry browser to http://m.openbeak.com … TwitterBerry Gets A Name Change… Now Called OpenBeak is a post from: RIMarkable
