As you likely already know, it’s all about location in the mobile world these days. GPS is the primary driver in determining one’s location, but it doesn’t always prove reliable inside buildings or areas without a clear and unobstructed view of the sky.

Will The BlackBerry Twitter Client Social Scope Ever Come Out Of Beta?
When it comes to BlackBerry Twitter clients , there certainly is no shortage of options for you to choose from. Unfortunately, however, the BlackBerry Twitter client considered by many to be the best, Social Scope , has been in closed beta for what seems like the past couple of years and a production release, or, even an open beta available to whomever wishes to download it is no where in sight.
Auto lock your BlackBerry for convenience and battery life
Last week, after sitting in Madison Square Garden for three hours while watching Iron Maiden and Dream Theater, I got a call from a good friend. I had just seen him that past weekend, which made the call seem odd. Did he forget to tell me something? Were we in some kind of trouble

Following on from the Apple press conference on Friday, it seems that Apple have ruffled the feathers of rival manufacturers, by trying to implement them in the issue of reception problems. You may recall, that during the conference, Apple’s CEO Steve Jobs came out to defend the iPhone 4 , amongst growing criticism of the iPhone Death Grip, where holding the iPhone 4 in a particular way can lead to signal going from full bars to no bars in a matter of seconds. One response from Apple to this problem is to admit to a flaw in the software algorithm that calculates signal strength, which has been dealt with by a software update that was rolled out via iTunes last week. Despite going on to say that less than 1% of all calls to Apple Care regarding the iPhone 4 related to signal problems, Apple acknowledge that where problems exist, encasing the handset in a case, or Bumper can help, so promise to be giving out free cases and Bumpers for the iPhone 4 up until 30th September. What happens then remains to be seen.
BlackBerry Webkit Browser vs. iPhone and Android Browsers
The BlackBerry WebKit Browser isn’t available to us just yet, but with any luck RIM will be launching along side of BlackBerry 6 (OS 6.0), within the coming months. Our buddy Salomondrin has just posted a great preview of the upcoming WebKit Browser running on the BlackBerry Slider 9800.
The BlackBerry Storm2 is starting to reach end-of-life status with a couple different carriers in North America, but that hasn’t stopped Manitobia’s own MTS from finally launching it. The BlackBerry Storm2 is a CDMA smartphone, with world roaming abilities. As of now you can grab the BlackBerry Storm2 for $199 with three year term and voice and data plan. BlackBerry Storm 3 and Curve 3 to join the Droid 2 on Verizon?
Verizon has yet to officially announce or confirm the Motorola Droid 2 , but the smartphone is surely coming soon to the largest US carrier to make a great pair with the Droid X , and to replace the original Droid . Two new images of the Droid 2 have appeared over at Engadget , and although they unveil nothing new, they’re proof that the new QWERTY Droid is out there . Reportedly, it will be released in August. If you want a new smartphone from Verizon, but not on Android, it seems that the carrier is also getting ready to launch the BlackBerry Storm 3 and BlackBerry Curve 3 (sometime before the holidays). The Storm 3 might be a different version of the AT&T-bound 9800 slider , while the Curve 3 could be the 9300 , or something alike.
Video — WebKit BlackBerry Browser In Action: I’m Fairly Impressed
Salomondrin has a new video of the upcoming WebKit BlackBerry Browser , and, after watching it, I’d have to say that I am fairly impressed. When compared to the BlackBerry Browser found in the BlackBerry 9650, the new WebKit BlackBerry Browser appears to be light years beyond its predecessor. I’s still like to see RIM smooth out scrolling and transitions from landscape mode to portrait mode and back, however, all-in-all, the WebKit BlackBerry Browser looks pretty good.
Al Sacco’s Video And RIM’s Response to Steve Job’s “Death Grip” Statement
This is getting to be nearly as entertaining as a reality show. The iPhone has received quite the publicity lately over the “Death Grip” and Apple held a press conference addressing the issue

Apple have just concluded a hastily convened press conference, to respond to the growing bad press the new iPhone 4 has been receiving, in regards to the now infamous reception issues, popularly known as the ‘iPhone Grip of Death.’ The press conference started with a short presentation, led by Apple CEO Steve Jobs, and he started off by pointing out that all phones will suffer some kind of reception issues when held in a specific manner, citing the BlackBerry 9700, HTC Eris and Samsung Omnia as examples. After explaining all the testing that the iPhone 4 went through before release, Jobs said that Apple were aware of the reception issues the iPhone 4 had, but didn’t see it as such a big deal, seeing how this is something that all phones suffered from to some degree. The rate at which a phone shows the signal dropping is calculated on a software algorithm, which differs from phone to phone. Apple have noted that there was a flaw in their calculation, which was resolved by a software update rolled out for all iPhone handsets through iTunes, which started going live yesterday.
BlackBerry News From The Wire for the Week of 7/12/2010
With so many different BlackBerr models on different carriers, RIM does face some issues when updating devices. They have to get things ready for both CDMA and GSM, and then for multiple devices on each. It doesn’t make for easy upgrades
Revalidating your Hotmail account on your BlackBerry
There are sometimes questions we receive that we can’t find a good answer to. Sometimes it’s because we don’t have the proper experience with that specific question, but most of those times we can find the answer elsewhere. Still, there are always a few that we just can’t answer.
New feature from WorldMate automatically captures your itinerary
In our best free summer travel apps , along with our massive top free BlackBerry apps list, we featured WorldMate. I first learned about the app at WES 2008 and have been hooked ever since. As I said in the summer apps post, it’s like the folder my dad used to keep when my family traveled
BlackBerry have given us another sneak peek of their upcoming new Operating System, OS 6.0. As well as on forthcoming devices, the new OS is rumoured to be compatible with some of the more recent BlackBerry devices, such as the BlackBerry 9700 . This would be good news for many loyal BlackBerry users; the videos of the new OS seem to indicate a touch-based interface, which would restrict availability on current devices to the Storm and Storm 2 , hardly the most popular of recent BlackBerry handsets. The new features of OS 6.0 include integrated feeds from social networks, a universal search option, and the all new web browser, which offers a significantly improved browsing experience
