Video: BMW iDrive Reads Your BlackBerry Email To You

Research in Motion and BMW have been working on technology that essentially turns your BMW’s iDrive into a remote control of your BlackBerry .  Using a new Bluetooth protocol called MAP, the BMW and BlackBerry can pair allowing iDrive to ingest all the contacts from the BlackBerry and sync email.  Once paired, Drives can scan through and read headers of emails through their iDrive console (probably not the safest act while driving) and selected messages can read to the driver using iDrive’s text-to-voice transcription. BlackBerry Tour 9630 users get Push-to-Talk “Free for Life” from Verizon

Since Verizon started offering free Push-to-Talk to users of the BlackBerry Tour 9630 just over a month ago, the conversion rate hasn’t been that great. How do we know? Well, call it a gut feeling, but we feel that if enough users got in on the “limited time” free PTT offering, then Verizon wouldn’t be offering it now for free for the life of a user’s contract.

Verizon Wireless to offer free Push to Talk for BlackBerry Tour 9630 owners

When you think of push-to-talk you might conjure up images of construction workers on job sites wielding yellow ruggedized handsets. However, recently Verizon rolled out push-to-talk to its business-centric BlackBerry Tour handset in an attempt to bring PTT to new industries and work places. The adoption rate for this $5 monthly service has apparently a bit sluggish amongst Tour owners, as Verizon is reportedly launching a new promotion that will allow 9630 owners to add the PTT service to their line…for free

BlackBerry 9670 to be launched only via Verizon and Vodafone?

BlackBerry 9670 , RIM’s second smartphone to come in a clamshell form factor (after the Pearl Flip 8220 / 8230), might be exclusively available at Verizon and Vodafone. According to Fudzilla , the BlackBerry 9670 is a clamshell just because Verizon asked RIM to do it in this form factor. Reportedly, the carrier also “supplied the specs”, which should include a 5MP camera, Wi-Fi, full QWERTY keyboard, and an updated OS (that’s BlackBerry 6 ). The 9670 should be some sort of an affordable “hip device” targeted at young users.

BlackBerry Pearl 3G Review

When the original BlackBerry Pearl was announced back in 2006, it caused quite a stir. Until that point, BlackBerry handsets were rather large, and chunky, and very wide. But then came the Pearl, and suddenly Blackberry handsets were almost the size of a normal mobile device. The size issue with Blackberry handsets was caused by the inclusion of full QWERTY keyboards, and whilst handsets these days with full QWERTY are a much more manageable size, something like the Pearl still has a place in the pocket of some mobile users.

iPhone, BlackBerry Won’t Last Another Five Years – Kaspersky

Eugene Kaspersky, CEO of a popular antivirus company , said at a Infosec that closed operating systems, like iPhone, BlackBerry ( NSDQ: RIMM ), and Windows Phone, won’t last in the long run because they don’t embrace open-source, like Android and Symbian do. That’s an awfully heavy-handed statement, considering the ample success of iPhone and BlackBerry these days, though Android certainly provides a case for successful open-source mobile operating systems. At the same conference, Kaspersky has has reiterated their coverage of mobile phone viruses which, though currently nonexistant, could become a worry as smartphones gain marketshare and operating systems become bigger and introduce more security gaps. Security aside, I have problems imaging Apple ( NSDQ: AAPL ) having trouble selling just about anything to consumers, and will more than likely last more than five years.
