Skype 2.1 for iPhone: iOS 4 fast app switching and background VoIP
Skype (Free) now supports fast app switching and (supposedly) background VoIP, but I still hate it forever. You see, despite Skype’s reputation for connecting people over long distances, it’s done a pretty horrific job at connecting me with family members in the same household. There have been numerous times when Skype has told me I have no friends online, even when I was sitting beside a friend and they were very clearly logged in

The Art Of The Brick – 18 Amazing Lego Creations In One Exhibit [Pics]
The Art Of The Brick is an art exhibit by Nathan Sawaya, but it’s not your typical sculpting, painting and pottery type of show, instead Sawaya has made all of his creations using only Lego. From a monopoly board to a man who’s spilling his guts, quite literally, the exhibit offers some of the coolest Lego creations I’ve seen in a while. Click on the Lego creations below to see full sized images of each piece: If you happen to be in or near Peoria, IL you can find the exhibit at the Lakeview Museum. Special thanks to Jenn Smith for permission to use her pictures

Video Of A $5 Million Swedish Bank Robbery
This is a surveillance video that was just released from a Swedish bank robbery that went down back in September. The robbers landed a helicopter on the roof, broke into the Louvre-ass looking ceiling , and proceeded to escape with over $5 million (US) in Swedish Fish kronar. Krona krona bills ya’ll. Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on whether or not you view these guys as brilliant schemers or common criminals, 10 of them got caught and are going on trial next month. But now that the trial is about to begin, they’ve released the above footage of the crime itself.

iPhone Game Review: mTanks!
I am embarrassingly tardy with this review, but the reasoning is actually good news and worth mentioning. I had been playing mTanks on my iPod Touch but then the kids got out of school, we went on vacation, and I got busy getting my iPod Touch set up for my wife to use to read ebooks on vacation. Long story short, I forgot about the game completely. Before I finish the story, let’s see what this mTanks is all about: The Hype: 4 days ago NASA’s Spirit rover discovered a growing army of tanks beneath the surface of Mars.

Droid X Coming With Screen Issues, Motorola Offering Fix
It seems that the Droid X isn’t exempt from its own version of Antennagate , only this time it’s with the handset’s screen. Some new Droid X users are experiencing problems with the phone’s large 4.3-inch display – reports of banding (white and black strips running vertically down the display) and wild flickering are the two main issues. Although this problem seems to be contained to a small number of users, Motorola and Verizon are quick to squash any potential PR nightmares and have already issued a statement and fix

Verizon launching $80 5GB prepaid data plan next month, FiveSpot too?
At present, Verizon only offers prepaid mobile broadband in buckets ranging from 100MB up to 1GB at prices from $15 to $50. Problem is, 1GB goes by in about two seconds if you’re YouTubin’ your way through a layover in Atlanta, enjoying a little too much Hulu and Pandora, or torrenting a few ISOs (perfectly legal ones, of course) — so to that end, we’re hearing that a 5GB option will be launching on August 23 for a breathtaking $80. Presumably, it’d be good for 30 days from the date of purchase the same as the current 1GB plan, though we don’t know that from the information we have.

Pulse News Mini 1.0.2 for iPhone: Retina Display update, speed increase, Bump sharing support
Pulse ($2.99 – review ) just got a lot sexier for iPhone 4 users, and faster for everyone. I haven’t had a chance to test a big refresh yet (this update came out last night — official post here ), but I have noted a significant increase in scrolling speed, especially while the app is refreshing. However, I’d argue that it’s an undocumented change that has made the biggest difference in v1.0.2.

Qt Animation Framework – Creating animations and transitions
If you are sick and tired of the state of the Ovi store and want to do something about it then start programming. I downloaded the Nokia Qt SDK today onto my MAC today for the intention of learning to code for Nokia phones and with such great tools like the Qt SDK it’s easer than ever. Microsoft says to expect non-casual, ‘hybrid’ Kinect games ‘over the coming 18 months’
Excited by some of the possibilities Kinect offers for non-casual games? Then it looks like you might have a bit of a wait in store. Speaking with GamesIndustry.biz , Microsoft’s VP for Interactive Entertainment in Europe, Chris Lewis, went to some length to point out that Microsoft isn’t ignoring core gamers, but would only go as far as to say that non-casual, “hybrid” games that use both Kinect and a standard controller would likely become available “over the coming 18 months or so.” Not many more details beyond that, unfortunately, but Lewis did divulge a bit of UK news, saying that sales went up “1,000 percent week-over-week with an 84 per cent market share” following the release of the new, redesigned Xbox 360. Microsoft says to expect non-casual, ‘hybrid’ Kinect games ‘over the coming 18 months’ originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 21 Jul 2010 15:34:00 EDT. Please see our terms for use of feeds

AT&T Comments on Dropped Call Statistics
When Steve Jobs stood on stage last week and explained what was happening with the iPhone 4′s antenna (or, the whole mobile industry, if you really want to look at the presentation), he mentioned that the dropped call statistics from AT&T weren’t available at the time. Well, looks like that’s over and done with, because the month of May’s results have just been outed, and all because a website went out of their way to run their own poll. The site, Tech-Ex , asked its readers to confide their deepest, darkest AT&T secrets: how often do your calls get dropped? The results weren’t pretty: 4.5%, versus Verizon’s results, which stood at 1.5%, all in the month of March.
