Deutsche Bank gives Sprint buy rating, cites success of EVO 4G
Right before Q2 earning go live, Deutsche Bank has knighted Sprint with the coveted “buy” rating. DB noted that they “expect Sprint’s 2Q results to highlight continued improvements in its post paid ops,” which prompted Deutsche Bank to reduced their estimate for post-paid net losses from 500,000 to 400,000 for the quarter. The firms analysts credit strong sales of the HTC EVO 4G — the first 3G/4G hybrid smartphone — for Sprint’s lower churn rate (2.05%) and 42% year-over-year growth in post-paid customer additions (gross). Sprint is scheduled to announce earnings for Q2 2010 on Wednesday July 28th.

IKEA Vika Viene Table Top
There’s a reason people submit to the torture test that is building IKEA particle board furniture — and it has nothing to do with Swedish meatballs. Instead it’s the schnazzy and clever design factor the company consistently provides for a rock bottom price. The Vika Viene Table Top ($99) is just another example of this value proposition in action thanks to its integrated cable outlets and cord organizers hidden underneath a spring hinged top

Parents/Law Enforcement Concerned Digital Drug Use May Lead To Analog Drug Use
Seen here looking a little spacy herself, this is a news report by Adrianna Iwasinkski regarding the dangers of digital drugs leading teens down the slippery slope to analog drugs and, eventually, to turning tricks in the mall parking lot to get their next fix (been there done that, amirite?). If you’re unfamiliar with digital drugs, you can read the old Geekologie article about i-Doser , or jump right into the video. But just a heads up (in case my parents are reading): Geekologie does not condone drug use of any kind — be it digital, analog, digilog OR analital. Except booze, which isn’t so much a drug as it is a miracle elixir that keeps me sane ($5 HJ’s if you bring me an Orange Julius).

FileMaker Pro squeezes onto an iPhone
FileMaker Pro, the Mac’s answer to Microsoft Access, is now available for iOS – allowing the iPhone and iPad into the enterprise, as long as the enterprise is using FileMaker. To be fair, FileMaker Pro is now available for Windows too, but with its Claris heritage it’s hard not to think of it as a Mac product first and foremost

iSkoot scoots into a partnership with T-Mobile, Kalaida now on over 100 handsets
In our tech-obsessed bubble, wherein we obsess over how many millions of iPhones have been sold or how many tens of thousands of apps are in the Android Market, it’s easy to forget something: not everyone carries a smartphone. A massive number of people, from soccer moms to Arrington , still carry their good ol’ trusty feature phone. For the past few years, iSkoot has been ensuring that these people can stay just as connected to their social network as their smartphone-carrying compadres with Kalaida, a cloud-based social network aggregator which OEMs and carriers can pre-load onto handsets before they hit the selves. Today, iSkoot’s announcing a new partnership with T-Mobile — and that with this recent momentum, Kalaida can now be found on over 100 different handset models

Verizon’s LTE Reportedly Planned to Launch November 15th in 30 Markets
According to some sources speaking with Engadget , it looks like Verizon is moving right ahead with their 4G plans, and sticking right to their schedule. The new report suggests that on November 15th, Verizon will flip the proverbial switch on their Long Term Evolution (LTE) network, and give up to 30 markets access to the next level of data speeds. Sure, that means you’ll have to wait until the end of the year (pretty much) before you get to experience 4G speeds on the Verizon network, but at least it’s better than nothing. Along with the launch, Verizon is supposedly bringing two data cards into the fold as well. There’s no mention of what kind of handsets we should expect to see, unfortunately, and for many folks out there, that’s the icing on the cake.

DROID X shortage?
This isn’t looking too good. First screen issues , and now delays? According to Verizon’s website, all new orders of the DROID X won’t ship until August 3rd. Same thing happened to the DROID Incredible when it launched, so it’s definitely an interesting scenario. I called a few of my local Verizon stores, and most of them were sold out.

Vodafone Nexus One to get Froyo next week
Sure, Google may not be selling it directly for much longer , but you can and will still be able to buy a Nexus One from Vodafone, in certain European markets. However, the Nexus Ones that were bought from Vodafone are still stuck on Android 2.1 right now, even if Google officially released Android 2.2 Froyo for the Nexus One a good while ago. Vodafone has announced that it will right this wrong during next week. The roll out will be over the air, but will not go to all phones at the same time, so as always with these things, be patient. If you’re wondering why it took so long, the reason is that Vodafone apparently couldn’t help tweaking things here and there in Google’s new OS.
