Why Windows Phone 7 won’t have copy and paste at launch

Apple ( NSDQ: AAPL ) was widely criticized for not having copy and paste in the iPhone until the third major version of the software, so it was kind of surprising that Microsoft ( NSDQ: MSFT ) won’t include this seemingly-basic feature in the upcoming Windows Phone 7 . The software giant said it wanted to focus on other features first but this should be coming in future iterations. The company insists that the out-of-the-box experience will be good enough where users won’t miss copy and paste.

Breaking: Email Addresses of 114,000 iPad Owners Leaked

Bad news for iPad owners: 114,000 of their email addresses have been compromised . A group of hackers obtained the email addresses of 3G iPad users through a security hole in AT&T’s website . Additionally, they obtained individual iPad identification numbers used to connect to the Internet. The list of exposed addresses includes military personnel, members of Congress, New York Times execs, the mayor of New York City, and many more prominent figures, not to mention tens of thousands of other users. The security breach came through AT&T’s website (not Apple’s) and eventually, the group who found the loophole notified AT&T, and it has since been closed.

Security breach allows hackers to obtain info on 114,000 AT&T iPad owners

Um, wow . Gawker revealed today that a  group of hackers from Goatse Security (no joke) were recently able to breach AT&T’s servers and obtain confidential user info on a significant amount of AT&T’s iPad 3G users. AT&T eventually patched up the hole in its system after being informed of its existance by Goatse Security, but that was after the confidential information such as email addresses of an estimated 114,067 iPad 3G users — including top level government officials, high-ranking military officers, and Fortune 500 CEOs — were exposed. Here’s how the data was obtained. When provided with an ICC-ID as part of an HTTP request, the script would return the associated email address, in what was apparently intended to be an AJAX-style response within a Web application.

Review: The Maya II Case for iPad by Proporta

The sorts of people who prefer to have a case for their iPad are a many and varied lot. Some people like to wrap their valuable devices in armor, preferring cases that are guaranteed to protect their investment in the case of impact, hurricane or being chucked screaming from the back of a burning bus as it plummets off a cliff into a black hole. Others go for fashion over form, caring only that it oozes geek chic and hidden brilliance

Gibson’s Rock Band lawsuit ends in settlement, one way or another

Back in 2008, Gibson Guitar hoped to cash in on the Rock Band craze with a slate of patent infringement lawsuits of dubious quality, and though the firm lost to Activision a year later, its suits against Harmonix, Electronic Arts, Viacom, and six major retailers stirred something in Nashville’s rock gods. Though exact terms weren’t disclosed, the parties reached a settlement in a Tennessee federal court this week, and plan to bring the lawsuit to an end by June 14th. Meanwhile, we hear Harmonix v. Konami is meeting a similar end; retailers should be able to sell cheap plastic guitars with a infinitesimally cleaner conscience in a little over three months

The Aligata Genuine Leather Case For iPad Review

Dan : A few weeks ago I wrote a roundup of several iPad cases and my experiences with ordering them. Shortly thereafter I received an email from Tom at a small company called Aligata . He told me about his cases and offered to send a review sample. A few days later one of his cases in Espresso Black was coming to me, and a Nude Beauty was on its way to Judie. I spend some time with mine and then sent it to Travis for him to use

Apple bans competing ads from the iPhone

Apple has tweaked its developer terms and conditions to explicitly lock out in-application advertising services that might compete with its own iAd service. The new terms, picked up by All Things Digital, spell out the rules. Applications may not collect statistical information for advertising, or any other reason, without Apple’s written permission – and you can be clear that Google, Microsoft and/or Opera need not apply. Even if the user’s consent is obtained Apple won’t allow the collection of any demographic information for feeding to analytical services such as Flurry, or any purpose that isn’t “directly relevant to the use of the Application”. When it comes to advertising, some information can be gathered with the user’s permission, but only if the company doing the gathering is “an independent advertising service provider whose primary business is serving mobile ads” – our emphasis.

AT&T, Apple breach exposes 114,000 iPad owners [Update]

Roughly 114,000 early adopters of the iPad 3G may have had their e-mails exposed thanks to a security breach of AT&T ( NYSE: T )’s servers, according to a report. The report said Goatse Security was able to obtain the e-mail addresses and AT&T associated ID of multiple iPad users via a script on AT&T’s website. The data includes information from high-profile early adopters like White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg. The vulnerability has been reported to AT&T and has been fixed but there’s a chance every iPad 3G owner who has used AT&T’s mobile data has been exposed. Apple ( NSDQ: AAPL ) and AT&T has not publicly commented as of press time.

Palm Pixi Plus now free on AT&T

Wow, that didn’t take long! A couple days ago, you were paying $50 to take this thing home, but AT&T has moved perhaps quicker than any carrier in memory to adjust pricing on the Pixi Plus down to a more reasonable $0 — on contract after rebates, of course. The only catch appears to be that you’ll have to sign up for a data plan of at least $15, which corresponds to the carrier’s recently-introduced DataPlus package that includes 200MB per month with overage of $15 per additional 200MB. That might seem low for your average power user on your average smartphone — but this is a Pixi Plus we’re talking about here. [Thanks, Allen] Palm Pixi Plus now free on AT&T originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 09 Jun 2010 17:20:00 EDT. Please see our terms for use of feeds .

Motorola Plans 20 Android Phones for 2010

According to Motorola ( NYSE: MOT )’s Tom Satchwell, director of marketing for mobile devices, they intend to launch 20 new Android devices worldwide in 2010, and they’d be launching even more if the carriers were biting. Between the Shadow , Xtreme , and the other Android phones coming out of the woodwork, I believe it – heck, they’re probably close to halfway there already. Motorola’s love affair with Google ( NSDQ: GOOG )’s mobile operating system has been going since the Cliq launch in the fall , and shows no sign of letting up.

T-Mobile Garminfone now on sale, price still boggles the mind

As promised , T-Mobile has brought the Garminfone to retail today for $199 after $50 rebate on a new two-year contract, calling into question the viability of selling a nav-centric Android device with an HVGA display, 3 megapixel camera, and no 3.5mm headphone jack for $250 out of pocket in the store. We suppose the awesome car dock will attract some, but the myTouch 3G Slide certainly seems like the better option for less money — maybe this would work at $99 or $149, we suppose.

Cisco and Apple Agree Ahead of Time on IOS / iOS Naming

Cisco, the networking company that Apple borrowed the name iPhone from when naming their crown jewel, announced on Monday that their long unnamed handheld operating system will now be called iOS.  Two things about this may have stood out to you, the first being that we now have one more “i”XYZ item to keep track of.  The second might be that the acronym IOS is already in existence, and used by none other than Cisco.  IOS, or Internetwork Operating System if you want a mouthful, is the embedded operating system that Cisco uses as their network infrastructure software. According to Cisco it seems that Apple asked Cisco for permission to use the moniker ahead of time.  The networking company has agreed to license the naming convention to Apple for use in describing what is running on their iPhones, iPod Touches and iPads around the world
