App Store Rankings–Distribution Strategies for iPhone and Mobile Apps

The following is a short extract from chapter 11 on ‘Distributing your Application’ within Part III ‘Creating Winning LBS Businesses’ in my forthcoming book, Location Based Services (written with co-author Murat Atkihanoglu), available for pre-order here . “There is a certain shroud of mystery surrounding exactly how App Stores work, with the various players involved guarding most of their cards close to their chest. Cosmote Open Space Internet TV Commercial

This entertaining Cosmote Open Space Internet commercial has a point to make about the future of internet use. The commercial uses a simple comedic point, but their point is effective. Followers vanish as Twitter squashes bug

Glitch allowed users to ‘force’ other users to follow By Helen A.S. Popkin updated 47 minutes ago The Twitpocolypse is upon us! Earlier today, as the microblogging site attempted to fix an embarrassing bug, follower lists suddenly disappeared. As the Twitterverse panicked and “Follower 0″ rose to the top of it’s trending list, Twitter assured its users via the company’s own Twitter feed that the issue would be rapidly remedied. “Follow count display is set to 0 and follow/unfollow is temporarily offline while we fix a bug,” Twitter’s own Twitter account reported at 1:02 p.m., confirming that everyone, from Ashton Kutcher to Justin Bieber bloggers, was affected. Earlier Monday, the microblogging network was beset by a bug that allowed anyone to force other Twitter users to follow his or her account

Exchange 2010 gaining momentum in large businesses

Microsoft Exchange's share of the installed base of message servers will continue to grow through 2011. More than four out of 10 large businesses will be moving to Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 in the next 18 months, according to a survey released in April by a market research firm. “Exchange 2010 has even more momentum now than Exchange 2007 had at a similar time in its lifecycle approximately three years ago,” asserted Osterman Research in its report “Embracing Exchange 2010: Momentum, Migration and Growth in the New World of Messaging.” “In two years, Exchange 2007 and 2010 will dominate, with more users expected on Exchange 2010 than 2007,” predicted the report, which was sponsored by Azaleos, a manager of hosted data services. During that time period, the surveyors continued, the migration to Exchange 2007 and 2010 will reduce Exchange 2003’s share of the server universe to six percent from its current 45 percent of the software’s installed base. The surveyors, who examined data from Exchange-enabled organizations of at least 1,000 employees or email users, cited a number of reasons driving rapid migration to the new software

Healthy Growth of BI Market

According to a new report from market research firm Gartner, Inc., the business intelligence software market was one of the segments that significantly outperformed the overall enterprise software market in 2009. The study revealed that the worldwide market for business intelligence, analytic applications and performance management software saw revenues exceed $9.3 billion last year, a rise of more than four per cent compared with 2008 revenues of $8.9billion. “Even though growth was nowhere near the levels of 2008, and by no means immune to the recession, BI showed that it is not as cyclical as many other software areas, recording healthy growth in one of the toughest years recorded in software history,” said Dan Sommer, a senior research analyst at Gartner. BI was one area of IT that businesses were not prepared to push aside due to cost pressures. Mr.
