Using iPhone to unlock doors

The OpenWays hotel key app seeks to eliminate digital room keys. Hotel room keys are easy to misplace and even when you can find them, sometimes their proximity to other digital devices can erase the code to your room. This ingenious app allows smartphone users at select hotels to open the door to their room, extend their stay, and check in or out—all from the their iPhone or other supported device.

First Symbian 3 smartphone won’t be Nokia N8, launching from ‘Asian vendor’ in 2010

Nokia has been having a hard time keeping up with snazzy new smartphones powered by the iPhone OS and Google ( NSDQ: GOOG )’s Android mobile operating system, but the Finns are looking to rejuvenate their handsets with the launch of Symbian^3 later this year. But, rather than launch Symbian 3 on the Nokia ( NYSE: NOK ) N8, as has been expected , the updated Symbian platform will apparently launch on a smartphone from an “Asian vendor.” The more user – and developer -friendly Symbian^3 OS is due to be launched in the third quarter , after a delay that pushed back it’s initial first quarter launch window. Word of the first smartphone to run the new Symbian OS comes straight from the source. Symbian Foundation executive director Lee Williams said in an interview that the simpler and more eye-catching Symbian 3 UI was headed to market and added that the platform is almost code complete. The first device to make use of the platform, it seems, could come from Asian smartphone powerhouses like Samsung, HTC or even LG, although Williams was tight-lipped about exactly which vendor would take first dibs on the new version of Nokia’s go-to OS.

As you probably know, Nokia Messaging for IM offers a desktop-like IM experience, allowing users to stay in touch with their buddies across multiple communities, including Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger, Google ( NSDQ: GOOG ) Talk and Ovi

Lego Meets Bugatti Veyron 16.4, Delivers Complex Components

The Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grandsport is one of the most beautifully designed cars on the market and now you can own your very own for a fraction of the cost! Just beware, it’s made out of Lego and it’s only a 1:8 scale, but at least it does have working parts. The creation features a working sequential gearbox with 7+R speeds, offers a convertible top, and comes equipped with fully functioning progressive brakes, retractile spoiler and flap and a handbrake. All of those features are controlled by a single remote control. The video below shows the Bugatti Lego creation in action, notice the end of the video in which the transmission is shifted between each of the seven gears using a rather complex gearbox setup, it’s one of the more impressive mechanics meets Lego builds I’ve ever seen.

4G –would it really be helpful?

Although 4G technology is definitely better than 3G, consumers are not so enthusiastic about it. Matt Carter, president of Sprint’s 4G division, assures the market with this statement: “View it as the difference between watching regular TV and high-definition TV…Once you’ve experienced high-definition TV it’s hard to go back to standard TV.

Nokia N8 Release Date Confirmed for the UK

Nokia N8 Release Date Confirmed for the UK Apparently, retail workers across the pond are far more knowledgeable when it comes to high-profile devices, than they are here in the States. We’re only saying that, because if we were to go into any store here and ask when, say, the Motorola Shadow was going to be released, we’d probably just get stared at. Maybe even asked to leave. But, maybe it’s Pocket-Lint’s good looks that got them to get the information they were looking for

Nokia X6 Making its Way to South Korea

Nokia X6 Making its Way to South Korea Nokia’s sending their X6, which is a music-based (like so many of them are) handset, to South Korea, beginning next month. As it stands, that makes the X6 only the third Symbian-based smartphone to reach the Southern shores. They don’t have a lot of options, even if you think about the comparisons between the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic (which is one of the other devices launched in the region), but that doesn’t mean this isn’t good news. Just like the 5800, the X6 is a music-based handset.

Two new Motorola Droids prepared by Verizon for July, one of them is likely the Shadow

Two new Motorola Droids prepared by Verizon for July, one of them is likely the Shadow With all the leaked details and alleged images of the Motorola Droid Shadow , it’s probably safe to assume that Verizon will launch the new smartphone in the coming months. Well, according to the Wall Street Journal , the largest US carrier is actually readying two new Motorola Droid smartphones for the month of July. This is in line with some previous rumors, which had it that Verizon would introduce both the Shadow, and a similar smartphone (but with a QWERTY keyboard) dubbed Motorola Droid 2 . So these new Droids that the WSJ is talking about are likely the Shadow and the Droid 2.
