Official Twitter App Launched For Android 2.1

After acquiring Tweetie , so they can launch an official Twitter app for iPhone, and after working with RIM to make an official Twitter app for BlackBerry , Twitter have now released an official app for Android . Sadly, it is only compatible with Android 2.1 devices — the unfortunate side-effect of Android’s break-neck pace of development. The app actually looks really good, both visually and feature-wise. I currently use Twidroid Pro , and have dabbled with Seesmic (I’m loose like that), but this app seems like it could replace them both (just as soon as HTC pump out that European Hero 2.1 update… *shakes fist*). It has some interesting features, such as the ability to sync tweets with your phonebook contacts so you can view your pal’s latest tweets straight from your phonebook, or anywhere that uses Android’s QuickContact bar

Official Twitter app launched for phones running Android 2.1 and later

Twitter has been around for quite a long while and so has Android, but there hasn’t been an official Twitter app for users of Android phones who like to share the minutiae of their every thoughts every minute of every day. Until now, that is. The Twitter team has just announced through their official blog that Twitter for Android is already available in the Android marketplace, and it serves its purpose as a convenient way to delivery tweets straight from a user’s phone while offering tight integration with other services and Android features. Twitter for Android enables users to access tweets with a special home screen widget, as well as while viewing maps, scanning the phonebook, or any application that uses Android’s QuickContact bar

Motorola RAZR3 live pics and hands-on video come to light

We don’t know if Motorola still has plans for its RAZR line of phones, but if we know one thing, it’s that the third iteration of the very popular Motorola RAZR V3, the Motorola RAZR3 (codenamed Ruby) , was canned back in the last quarter of 2008, and we thought it was mostly due to the company’s restructuring. But surely Motorola had started work on it already before giving up on it, right? Well, as it turns out, the company did already start work on the new phone and a few prototypes had already been made. And these are referred to as prototypes instead of dummy phones for a reason: they worked like you would expect the final product to, albeit with a few kinks, bugs and missing features that were to be added later

Global handset market grew in the Q1 with RIM in No. 4 for the first time

The worldwide mobile phone market grew 21.7 percent in the first quarter of 2010, according to new figures from IDC. Vendors shipped 294.9 million units in the first quarter of 2010 compared to 242.4 million units in the first quarter of last year, which had seen a 16.6 percent year-on-year decline. IDC attributed the growth to increasing demand for smartphones and the global economic recovery

BlackBerry Tour 9630 users get Push-to-Talk “Free for Life” from Verizon

Since Verizon started offering free Push-to-Talk to users of the BlackBerry Tour 9630 just over a month ago, the conversion rate hasn’t been that great. How do we know? Well, call it a gut feeling, but we feel that if enough users got in on the “limited time” free PTT offering, then Verizon wouldn’t be offering it now for free for the life of a user’s contract.

Yes indeed, the iPad 3G is already jailbroken

Been reading up on all the fun you can have with a jailbroken device, but were afraid your iPad 3G might be unhackable? Fear not . The “Spirit” jailbreak should work on the iPad 3G, just as soon as @comex releases a revision for the firmware shipping with the 3G. Just be sure to back up your blobs

G1 + Atari gamepad = gaming bliss

There isn’t any info on how this was pulled off, but this looks like a great way to play a few old-school games on my G1. Presumably it’s a straightforward mechanical hack: the buttons just press down on keys he’s designated in the emulator to do this or that. Not the best option for texting, but for Mario , it can’t be beat. Hard keyboard forever! [via Reddit and Make ]

Official Twitter for Android app released

Android has never had a seriously good Twitter application, but the official Twitter for Android app, now available in the Android Market, looks to be one of the best offerings for the platform yet. The UI is clean as can be and the app has pretty much all of the features you’d expect from a premium application including: full support for widgets, viewing users’ tweets from the Quick Contact bar and uploading images and videos straight from the Gallery.

Twitter Releases Android Application

Twitter just released their own client for Android. This joins quite a few applications on the platform including Twidroid, TweetCaster and HTC’s own Peep. According to the blog post it was developed with the Android team. It looks like a nice implementation, but does not support multiple accounts and requires Android 2.1.

Verizon Wireless to offer free Push to Talk for BlackBerry Tour 9630 owners

When you think of push-to-talk you might conjure up images of construction workers on job sites wielding yellow ruggedized handsets. However, recently Verizon rolled out push-to-talk to its business-centric BlackBerry Tour handset in an attempt to bring PTT to new industries and work places. The adoption rate for this $5 monthly service has apparently a bit sluggish amongst Tour owners, as Verizon is reportedly launching a new promotion that will allow 9630 owners to add the PTT service to their line…for free

Google: Don’t use Google Maps while driving

Today Google posted a small bit on its mobile blog about the importance of driving safely. The company said, “With the exception of Google Maps Navigation, which is designed for hands-free use with a car dock, Google Mobile products are not intended to be used while you are driving. Hand your phone to a passenger or park your car in a safe place if you need to search for a restaurant or check your email while behind the wheel.” The message was part of a collaboration with many companies to raise the awareness of driving safely. Nokia wants you to make an Ovi app out of your Twitter feed, launches Ovi App Wizard

To anyone who’s ever written a line of code, pre-canned/auto-generated apps are the scourge of the App Store world. For anyone who just wants to be able to say “Me? There’s an app for that! LOL!” without having to dedicate their lives to waging war against semi-colons and pouring through documentation, however, they’re a god send. Love’em or hate’em, Nokia has just embraced’em.
