Motorola Backflip (ME600) available now – but only in China

Expected to be launched soon in the US, as AT&T’s first Android phone, the Motorola Backflip is already available in China – where Moto also has Android devices like the XT800 and MT710 . The Backflip appears as Motorola ME600 on Moto China’s website , and it costs 4,298 Chinese yuan unlocked (an 8GB memory card and a car charger are included in this price) – that’s about $629, so AT&T will probably (hopefully) sell the phone for $200 or less on contract. The features of Motorola Backflip ME600 include a 320 x 480 pixels touchscreen display, HSDPA, Wi-Fi (and WAPI ), GPS, full QWERTY keyboard, 3.5mm headset jack, 5MP autofocus camera, and Android with MotoBlur. (live photos via 163 ) Back to AT&T, the second largest US mobile carrier should launch the Motorola Backflip in March – and it looks like it has already ordered about 400,000 units of it . The phone is surely interesting, although the weird form factor might scare some customers off.

Consumer 10.0: Web service can help cut monthly cell phone bills

Dissatisfied wireless customers got their due last week. After years of complaints about early-termination fees, the Federal Communications Commission finally showed signs of a serious inquiry into the charges. And the shortcomings of AT&T Wireless’ network, familiar to disgruntled iPhone users, drew wide attention for an ironic reason: Apple’s decision to stick with AT&T when it launches its eagerly awaited iPad mobile computer this spring. But today’s column isn’t about dissatisfied wireless customers. It’s about the vast majority of the nation’s 276 million wireless subscribers who are at least modestly happy with a technology that has changed so many aspects of their day-to-day lives

Ancient Frog on iPad – Developer Thoughts

For the many that surely missed it, on Wednesday Apple quietly announced a new member of the iPhone OS family, the iPad. And, while it runs existing iPhone applications just fine in a pixel-for-pixel or 2x-scaled mode, the device with its 9.7-inch screen has much more to offer in the way of screen real estate (over 5x the pixel count of the iPhone) and both CPU and GPU power. The iPad proposition gives iPhone developers much to ponder in the way of just how best to support it

SkyCsddie SGX with Club Tracking – SmartClub

SkyCaddie announced a new Golf GPS, the SkyCaddie SGX, with a pretty cool new feature that allows you to embed a wireless chip in the butt end of your club so that Sky Caddie knows when you remove a club from your bag – giving it total awareness well ahead of your deathbed (required reference to CaddyShack). With the SkyCaddie GPS tracking, awareness of what club you are playing, the SkyCaddie will be able to help profile each club to give you stats on how well you hit each club, allowing you to again choose the right club for the job. Sure you might know how far you are to the front of the green with a Golf GPS, but you might be lying to yourself about how far you can hit that 7-iron. This automated featue allows you to play the round, undistracted, getting a better dataset, and therefore offering you better results. The SmartClub capability is expected to roll out later this year

Geek Pool: Belgium’s Nemo 33

This is the deepest indoor pool in the world. The Nemo 33 was constructed back in 2004 and if you’re from Belgium, you’ve probably enjoyed 30 degrees Celsius of spa water (it’s non-chlorinated!) all year round. At over 33 meters deep (that’s about a little bit more than a hundred feet) the pool caters to the public who want to get away from the winter cold and to divers and would-be divers who are taking their certification courses. At over a hundred feet deep, you can actually take your open water and advanced open water courses here as the pool will suffice for a deep dive
