Morgan Stanley: Mobile Internet to overtake desktop in five years

The mobile web is experiencing faster growth than its desktop predecessor ever did according to a new study by investment firm Morgan Stanley, which forecasts more consumers will access the Internet by mobile devices than PCs within five years. Morgan Stanley’s 424-page Mobile Internet Report contends the mobile web cycle is just beginning, with material wealth creation and destruction expected to surpass previous computing cycles, galvanized by the growth and convergence of 3G adoption, social networking, video content, VoIP and advanced hardware (including but not limited to smartphones, tablets, ereaders and wireless home appliances). Another significant catalyst: Opportunities in emerging markets. It’s notable that, after years in the backwaters of global mobile development, American companies (led by the likes of Apple, Facebook, Amazon.com and Google) are becoming mobile Internet innovation pacesetters. Wwhile Apple currently leads in mobile innovation and impact, long-term winners will be determined by the depth of individual application ecosystems, the user experience and pricing.

Year in Review—Online marketing in hindsight

As the market demands fell, businesses looked towards newer ways of selling their business. Internet was the obvious choice, everybody look towards it, the small and medium sized businesses in particular. That is where companies like us came in to sell our services. As more and more companies started venturing to SEM and SEO, the chunk of pie that everybody got, got smaller and smaller. The shrinking budgets meant that the marketers got smarter and we as SEO services providers faced ever so harder times in trying to convince the marketers to spend a bit of their money.

Lavish Gresso USB Drive

MSN did a fun article on 8 lavish gadgets for the holidays, and of course, a USB flash drive made the list. Gresso introduced a 64GB USB flash drive which is F1 racing inspired with sleek design, look and material.  Gresso used the base material to be carbon fiber [the black] and titanium alloy as the accents [silver] then glazed the entire device with a special ceramic coating. The Gresso branded USB stick will set you back 6,448 Peso’s or about $500 USDs.  Still small enough to be lost in any coat pocket, but a perfect stocking stuffer for the well-to-do. So the question becomes:  would your friends be more impressed with the Gresso flash drive or a $500 bill? I’d pick the cash

What Killed Duke Nukem Forever

Like any other sub-30 geek, I’ve had my fun with the Duke Nukem series. From its humble side-scrolling platformer beginnings, up until Duke Nukem 3D, the franchise made sure I never considered Bruce Campbell the originator of “come get some” until much later. I missed out on Duke Nukem Forever’s announcement however, with the legendary game-that-never-was only entering my consciousness once it became fashionable to mock it’s eternally-delayed production. Do phrases like “Duke Nukem Never” ring a bill? And now, months after DNF’s development was officially halted, a meticulously researched article on Wired chronicles the game’s lengthy development process—and the reasons behind it: [Duke Nukem co-creator George] Broussard simply couldn’t tolerate the idea of Duke Nukem Forever coming out with anything other than the latest and greatest technology and awe-inspiring gameplay
