Palm Treo 680 / Centro – voice issues due to network upgrade
People using a Treo 680 or Centro on various networks (including T-Mobile and O2 in the UK) have recently reported an increasing amount of “dropped calls”, etc. As this has happened somewhat frequently, a network “upgrade” was a likely culprit. A T-Mobile manager has posted the following, somewhat long-winded explanation of the issue: Ok, I now understand the problem. I spoke with an RF Engineer about it

Like or loathe their redesign, but Engadget did a great job on getting good reviews on the road in the past. Their latest victim is the Pixi – can it stack up? Most important of all, it looks like Palm finally managed to get its keyboards back to the quality level seen on earlier Treos: … Admittedly, we weren’t expecting fireworks when we first laid eyes on this tiny QWERTY, but the experience of using it day to day has been nothing short of a revelation. You would think that the tight spacing and tiny keys would make typing a difficult task, but Palm has cleverly given the Pixi keyboard snappy tactile feedback and a substantial height boost, making tapping away a serious pleasure … Their final verdict stated that the Pixi – while not a bad device on its own – has issues especially with its larger (and similarly-priced) predecessor: … But the fact is that these phones are closely matched in both features and design — save for those items we just mentioned — and the Pre doesn’t lose out in a single category (unless you consider “smallest” to be a major factor, and even then you don’t have a lot ground to stand on).
Google has finally taken the wraps off of Chrome OS , its new Linux-based operating system that is all Internet-centric, running the Google Chrome browser as its main application. Yeah, the whole point of the Google Chrome OS is that it is web-based, and you interact pretty much exclusively in a browser window. The way Google sees it, you spend 95% of the time you are on a computer living in your web browser anyway, so Chrome OS is built to optimize that experience. Nothing is actually stored on the computer itself, as everything is stored, instead, in the cloud. Hit up the video above for Google’s introduction to Chrome OS, and we’ve got another video after the break taking a look at the UI concept.

Yahoo is planning to bid farewell to its Yahoo Go mobile application in early 2010. For three years, Yahoo Go has served as Yahoo’s all-in-one native app for our favorite Yahoo services on Windows Mobile, BlackBerry, and Symbian phones. Famous for its simple and efficient access to the broad range of mobile offerings like search, messaging, news, etc., it seems Yahoo is letting go of Go in order to direct more energy and resources to the development of its mobile web efforts. “In the past 18 months, browser quality has been increasing at an accelerated rate,” Yahoo’s global head of mobile product marketing Adam Taggart says. “We’ve doubled down on our mobile web strategy.” This week, Yahoo Go users will be notified by email of the company’s decision
It feels like ages since we’ve had a Mobile Geeks of London, whilst organiser James Whatley has been busy organising his life he’s also managed to organise the next Mobile Geeks of London. What a talented fella he is! The venue is the same place, All Bar One on New Oxford Street – I wonder if Brian May will turn up again? He did gatecrash the last one, even after we insisted no celebrities! Especially famous rock-stars with big hair! The details are below, and if you are on Facebook you should join the Group and RSVP to the event – there’s no messing around with any other 3rd party event organising here, lets keep it simple and in one popular place. That’s it, turn up, grab a drink and mingle with like minded geeks. I don’t think even Carlsberg could organised it any better, if they tried they’d probably do it this way, except with free beer of course! Venue: All Bar One (New Oxford Street) When: Wednesday, December 2, 2009, 6.30pm – 11.00pm
Carriers Rushing To Invest In Internal Mobile Marketing Platforms & App Stores
With the likes of Apple and Google making huge headway in the areas of mobile marketing and app distribution via app stores, wireless carriers have been forced to play catch up. New research suggests carriers are planning to invest heavily in “service delivery platform software and services,” or in other words internal means for self-serve mobile marketing and app distribution. Market research firm Infonetics released its latest “2009 Service Delivery Platform Software and Services” report that indicates mobile marketing and app store development are the two leading drivers behind carrier’s renewed interest in internal “Service Delivery Platforms,” due in large part to the revenue potential both concepts provide

Create your own themes with BlackBerry Theme Studio
As mentioned in yesterday’s theme review post , RIM recently released BlackBerry Theme Studio, an application which allows anyone to create new BlackBerry themes. While we’ll always appreciate the work of the professional designers who create vibrant premium themes, we also know that many people have an idea for the perfect theme in their heads. I know I do. There have been a few themes that have come close to that, but none have been the perfect Joe Theme
Seriously AT&T… Verizon is squarely hitting you in the mouth with their “Map for That” Ad campaign. If you are going to enter that dangerous ground of responding to your competition directly with a commercial of your own that is clearly a response to them hitting you in the mouth, you’ve got to come with something stronger than this… There is no fair fighting in marketing. When someone hits you in the mouth you hit them back in the mouth and knee them in the stomach… Unless, of course, what they are saying is essentially true… [#FAIL] AT&T, Is This The Best You Could Come Up With? is a post from: RIMarkable
AT&T Loses Request For Injunction Against Verizon “Map For That” Ads
Chances are that by now you’ve seen one of the Verizon “Map for That” Ads that clearly are a thorn in AT&T’s side as for late. Back at the beginning of the month AT&T filed a lawsuit against Verizon seeking an injunction against advertisements they claim are false advertising and deceptive trade practices. Verizon changed a few words, however, the advertising continued.
