How to Automatically Startup in 64-bit mode in Snow Leopard

There is a good chance if you’re using Snow Leopard, that you’re not using your Mac to its full potential. Most Macs bought within the past yer or so have 64-bit processors which can take advantage of Snow Leopard’s 64-bit mode, but Snow Leopard defaults to booting into 32-bit mode. Running your computer in 64-bit mode will generally be faster, though you do have to keep an eye out for some software with incompatibility issues. The easy way to boot in to 64 bit mode is to hold down the 6 and 4 keys each time you boot

Video: Macro Video Sample/Demo of the Nokia N900

Hey it’s Friday! I was just about to leave to catch a train (going home-home first then London for the weekend) but thought that I couldn’t let the weekend go by without a blog post. This is just an absolute quicky showing off the N900’s autofocus video. Unlike the N97 or other Nseries that are stuck to a fixed zoom point (N97 horribly set to infinity, so anything closer than, um 1 mile is blurry), with the N900, the subject can be very far away, within a few cm and the infinite degrees in between. This was literally all shot, edited in  2 minutes.

Future of QR Codes-Japan’s Colour Code Technologies

TOKYO – Colour Code Technologies showcased their patent-pending QR code innovation at the Mobile Asia Congress in Hong Kong last week. Their innovative Colour Construct Code (CCC) is capable of storing more than x100 the amount of data of more conventional barcodes by using pixellated colours. Through their technology, QR codes can be used to encode any type of digital data without requiring an internet connection to import information. Chris Carey, Director at Colour Code, showed me some examples of the kind of content they are converting into QR codes

Samsung M3310 Review

To be noticed in a crowded mobile industry, a handset needs a twist, a unique feature or look; otherwise there is a real risk of slipping into mobile phone obscurity. Some phones fight it out by being top of the tree and offering all the features possible, whilst others offer a new operating system, high end camera or online integration of contacts and services. The M3310 from Samsung comes to the market with a rather unique twist on a somewhat common design, a dual slide handset that hides stereo speakers in the upper slide out compartment. With DNSe support built in, you can be assured that the music quality is of the highest order; DNSe stands for Digital Natural Sound Engine, and this proprietary Samsung feature aims to offer the end user the best audio experience possible

Why Doesn’t BlackBerry App World Come Pre-Installed On New Devices?

I would have to imagine that most people reading this post have probably already installed BlackBerry App World , Research in Motion’s version of the iPhone App Store, but,  for the BlackBerry.  I would venture, however, that many BlackBerry users, maybe even the majority of them, have never heard of it. BlackBerry App World is still fairly new, coming out just this passed April and Research in Motion hasn’t exactly advertised the heck out of App World, but, you would figure that it would become more popular as RIM releases new BlackBerry devices into the wild, unless, of course, BlackBerry App World doesn’t come pre-installed on new BlackBerry devices

Sony Ericsson Xperia Pureness Review

The sharp eyed regular reader of the blog will have noted a little footnote to our news-of-the-week roundup back at the beginning of September , when we mentioned a forthcoming device in the Sony Ericsson range, news of which only came to light in document from a business update meeting. The press release talked about a device which would be marketed under the name of the Xperia Pureness , and the marketing blurb spoke of a handset designed for “Talk, Text, Time – a holiday from technology” a handset that would be designed to “reflect the purity of water and a sense of calmness when not in use” and most intriguing of all the Xperia Pureness would be the world’s first handset with a totally transparent display.

Nokia N900 with the Apple iPhone, BlackBerry Bold/Storm 2, Nokia N97 Mini/N86/5800/E71, Palm Pre, Samsung i8910/Omnia II, Sony Ericsson Satio/Aino and…

Here are some shots of the N900 with some current high end phones. In Alphabetical Order: Apple iPhone BlackBerry Bold/Storm 2, Nokia N97 Mini/N86/5800/E71, Palm Pre, Samsung i8910/Omnia II, Sony Ericsson Satio/Aino and Toshiba TG01 Initially the intention was to give a jist of the size of the N900. But since I was snapping away in phone retail stores, I didn’t get appropriate angle shots so you can see how easy it is to be deceived by comparison photos unless you see them flat, centre and horizontal with comparisons of [layered] length, width and thickness. www.sizeasy.com/ helps if you want to compare phone sizes and you’ve got their dimension.

China Transforms Manufacturer Center to Outsourcing Base

Wuxi, a picturesque city that lies along the Taihu Lake resort of the Jiangsu province, is planning to build an outsourcing base in years to come in order to become a major service outsourcing center. Wuxi is traditionally a manufacturing city, but with a focus on environmental protection, and especially after a serious blue-green algae outbreak in Taihu Lake, city leaders started to study how to transform the city’s development. Wuxi decided to replace manufacturing with the service outsourcing industry, which has far less pollution and consumes much less energy, the China Daily reports. The city is expected to attract 30 to 40 billion dollars in service outsourcing business and help create jobs for one million people by 2020, equivalent to that of India as a whole in 2007.
