How Moms Use Their iPhones [del.icio.us]
According to a new survey by mobile advertising network Greystripe, mothers with iPhones regularly let their children use their phones, download games specifically for their children, and often use their phones at grocery stores to compare prices and check their grocery lists. Not too long ago, mothers were still considered to be a hard group to reach through mobile applications because they tend to be late adopters. The iPhone's mainstream success has changed this, however, and iPhone moms have now become a desirable target demographic for marketers. Greystripe is a brand-focused advertising network and obviously has an interest in making this group attractive for advertisers, but the statistics in this report seem pretty solid. Greystripe found the 1294 respondents who filled out this survey through house ads on its own network.

RIM Unveils BlackBerry Storm 2, Challenges iPhone
BlackBerry maker Research In Motion today unveiled the Storm 2, a new version of its touch screen Storm smartphone, marking its latest move in the battle with Apple’s iPhone. The Waterloo, Ontario-based company said the Storm 2 retains the original Storm’s clickable touch screen interface, but improves upon it with faster typing and “multi-touch” capabilities, which allows users to type on more than just one part of the screen at a time. The Storm, RIM’s first phone without a physical keyboard, was met with limited success when it launched late last year. Many users complained about its odd typing mechanism — where the whole screen moved with each tap on the virtual keyboard — and claimed that they had to press too hard on the touch screen. RIM said the new Storm 2 solves that problem with its new SurePress technology — promising that clicking the display will be “effortless” and that device will even know if a finger is “resting” on the keypad or typing

Understanding Exchange Server Accepted Domains
Exchange Server 2007 introduced new terminology for describing the domain names that it will accept email for, and what it will do with that email. This is referred to in Exchange Server 2007 as Accepted Domains. In Microsoft’s own words, “an accepted domain is any Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) namespace for which a Microsoft Exchange organization sends or receives e-mail.” Accepted Domains fall into one of 3 categories – Authoritative , Internal Relay , and External Relay . Any given namespace that is an Accepted Domain can be only one of those three types. Authoritative Domains Authoritative Domains are those for which an Exchange organization hosts mailboxes that have email addresses that use that domain. For example, a company named Contoso Pty Ltd may own the domain name contoso.com and use email addresses of name@contoso.com . The Exchange organization would be configured to consider contoso.com an Authoritative Domain.

Police Scanner or Emergency Radio?
If you’re one of those edge-of-your-seat types that enjoys following police, fire and EMS transmissions there are half a dozen apps that make it easy to listen to those calls on your iPhone. Most of the scanner apps are still rookies with less than a month in the App Store. Only two of them — Police Scanner by Juicy Development LLC and Emergency Radio by EdgeRift, Inc — are seasoned veterans with experience and multiple updates under their belt. Both apps do a very good job of providing live streaming transmissions to your iDevice, but there are subtle differences between them

Troubleshooting Outlook Password Problems
Password problems can be perplexing – sorry I couldn’t resist the tongue twister Seriously, administrators will have the challenge of correcting password issues under time constraints as business activities and users are all working toward completing projects on time. So having a tool chest of techniques for solving and correcting password issues is a requisite of any good administrator. One problem that you will encounter from time to time is when passwords are not being kept by Outlook even though they have been specified to be retained. This may happen even if the “Save Password” box has been checked. Several solutions have been offered on the internet.

Sparkz: Qix Clone Finds new Generation of Gamers on the iPhone
(Editor’s Note: Sparkz is free today, October 20 for a one-day promotion!) Sparkz is a puzzle game with a long history. The app is a reproduction of the vintage Mac game Qix, which was in turn based on an earlier arcade game. And while I never played Qix, I hear that Sparkz does an excellent job of porting the popular arcade puzzle to the iPhone platform. The goal in Sparkz is to fence off the screen by traveling a perimeter of your own design to create closed shapes: square, rectangle, etc.

How a Mobile Interactive Board Game Impacts Mobile Marketing
I caught a bit of the Kim Komando radio show this weekend and she was talking about a new board game by Hasbro that includes text messaging as part of the game. Turns out it is an old board game with a new twist. CLUE: Secrets and Spies Edition includes a live text messaging feature that makes the game mobile interactive. (Read press release about it here .) During the course of the game players use their own cell phone to receive text messages that give them intelligence (aka clues) to accomplish top secret spy missions in the game. How totally cool is that

Troubleshooting Security Problems in Outlook
There are many areas of Outlook that are potential problems for administrators. Once such area is the sending and receiving of digitally signed messages. Digitally signing email messages is a form of protection that can be used to prevent identity fraud and the abuse of email messages sent to and from Outlook. Outlook allows email messages to be sent with cryptographic features such as S/MIME digital signatures and encryption. Such messages can utilize “public key/private key” encryption technology to make private their email messages so that only recipients who possess a public key are able to view the encrypted email message

Allerta’s inPulse Watch Accessory to Show Notifications from BlackBerry, Android and Symbian Phones
A couple of University of Waterloo students have put together a company called Allerta which will be making a cool little smartphone accessory that will keep you apprised of e-mail, SMS, and call alerts via Bluetooth while masquerading as a normal watch. I was a little dubious about these concept renderings of the product (they look like something even I could cook up in Pov-Ray ), but after seeing this picture from a year ago posted in the comments, outlining some of the features and use cases, inPulse started to look a lot more real. Considering the university is right next door to RIM, it’s no surprise that the inPulse will work with BlackBerry ( NSDQ: RIMM ), but hopefully it will work other smartphones as advertised back in 2008; Android and Nokia ( NYSE: NOK ) (Symbian) phones were explicitly mentioned. After a quick call, I was told more information would be made available this week, so stay tuned. P.S.: Shoutout to Ronen for spotting the Flickr link
