E-Mail Marketers Don’t Get Mobile Marketing

It’s easy for people who have been in marketing a long time, especially digital marketing, to make claims that mobile marketing is a waste of time. MobileStorm CEO Jared Reitzen put up a passionate post earlier this week confronting the prejudice against mobile marketing among e-mail marketers. One of the biggest problems with email marketing is the turnover rate of email addresses. Within one year 33% of email addresses in your campaign list are no longer valid. Cell phone numbers have a far lower turnover rate, and most people keep their cell phone number for life.

Case Study: Hispanics More Apt To Respond To Mobile

It’s no secret that younger consumers respond to mobile marketing much more than older consumers, but I came across an interesting case study that dove into the realm of socioeconomic and race-based demographics in regards to how they respond to mobile marketing. Continental Airlines recently ran a marketing campaign aimed at the Hispanic-American demographic in which  consumers could enter by texting a keyword to a short code or by clicking on a WAP link within an SMS alert from Univision and other various publishers.  The contest let consumers enter to win a trip for two anywhere in the world — up to $2,500 worth of plane tickets — by submitting a video. The airline ran ads on TV, on-line banners, search engine ads, out-of-home, radio and mobile — both SMS and WAP.  After it was all said and done, the company found that their interactive ads (mobile and on-line) were more effective than their off-line ads by a long shot (not surprising) but, most interestingly, the mobile ads were five-to-ten times more effective than on-line advertising.

Lotus Traveler Comes to the iPhone

For those of you who still didn’t know, the recent 8.5.1 release of Lotus Domino came with an additional piece of software called Traveler. This allows Apple’s iPhone to finally sync with Lotus Notes. My October article for Intranet Journal discusses how Lotus Traveler Comes to the iPhone Ever since Apple’s iPhone was introduced, fans of Lotus Notes lamented the fact that there was no push email solution that supported the IBM Lotus product. You could use IMAP to get your mail, but there was no real-time two-way solution like you could get on a Blackberry

Video: Droid Advert – or Nokia N900 advert?

As well as a Nokia N900 advert, this could also be a Nokia N97/N97 mini advert based on how the Motorola Droid is supposed to be “better” than the iPhone. Real Keyboard Running Simultaneous apps (N900 multitasks like no other) Customizable 5MP camera Flash for night photos Removable battery Runs widgets on homescreen Allows open development Heck, this could have been about a lot of phones. (I’m aware of the differences between the Moto Droid and N900 – but based on the iDon’t video, Verizon’s ad could be talking about either) The original As much as comparisons will be made highlighting the improved hardware advantages of phone X over the iPhone, none of it will ever actually matter until someone makes a phone that’s much more usable/user friendly than the iPhone itself.

Acer Liquid A1 Review

Acer may not be the first manufacturer that springs to mind when you think about leading manufacturers of mobile phones, but that hasn’t stopped them coming to market with a handset that currently boasts the best spec on any officially confirmed device running on the Android operating system. For fear of repeating ourselves, it is worth stating once again, that the Android OS is going to be big news, as 2009 comes to a close and we look forward to 2010. The coming 12 – 18 months are going to be important times for the mobile industry, as traditionally popular manufacturers and established systems are being challenged by a smart, upstart system that brings a new level of power and flexibility to the way we use our mobile phones for communication. We really have reached the point in the evolution of the mobile phone that to continue to call it such really does little service to recognise just how powerful these communication products are. These days telephony is but one basic element on offer, as we are starting to see a range of handsets that offer superb integration with a wide range of web based services, whilst continuing to push the boundaries on entertainment and media.

Blackberry Bold 2 9700 Review

For too long now, BlackBerry have been missing an all doing, all performing, top end smartphone in their line up, something that could take on the upstart devices from the likes of Nokia and others, and compete not just in terms of functionality, but in terms of specification, too. In today’s market, it is almost unforgiveable that a newly released mobile device could lack 3G connectivity, it should be a nailed on expectation in all but the most basic of phones, yet with the two more recent handsets from BlackBerry, the 8900 and 8520 Curve , 3G was missing. But now BlackBerry are ready to run, with a device that is set to be a flagship standard for all subsequent releases, the BlackBerry Bold 2 9700 . The original Bold was one of the few BlackBerry devices to run on 3G, and the new model has not only that, but also HSDPA Mobile Broadband, which should really enhance the web browsing experience. But, not only that, the new Bold 2 also delivers with WiFi, too! It is almost too much to take in, finally a BlackBerry device offering all the major connection options together, in one package! OK, so enough with the sarcasm, but it is still a valid point.

Nokia Booklet 3G Starts getting Available World Wide

Nokia’s first 3G enabled Netbook, Nokia Booklet 3G has started hitting shelves of retailers around the world. The uselessly highly priced gadget was launched by Nokia at the Nokia World Event 2009 . Apart from being a fully functional Netbook (Nokia likes to call it as Booklet but I like the word Netbook), it also has the functionality of voice communication using a SIM card, like an enormous cell phone. The Nokia Netbook has started hitting shelves of European retailers and service providers shop[s like that of O2 in Germany

3UK Network Improvements – Don’t Get Caught Out!

3UK are doing maintenance work on their London network infrastructure to give users a better experience with their network. This should result in a better service overall for mobile handset and broadband users across London. In order to give notice to those that will be affected, they have put up a map showing in which areas users will experience downtime in. If you’re in an affected area your service may be interrupted for a short period, usually no more than 6-8 hours. If you’re a Mobile Broadband customer you won’t be able to connect to the internet during this time.

Motorola Droid-first mover on Android 2.0 operating system

When Eric Schmidt from Google talks about future market trends (with convenient bite-sized quotes) people sit up and listen. When he recently announced that there would be ‘an explosion of Android adoption’, a lot of people got very excited and his may indeed soon become a self-fulfilling prophesy. One of the catalysts for this explosion could very well come from the sleek and feature-packed Droid, just out this week in the US.
