Changing the Product Code on your Nokia N97

What is a Product Code and why would I want to change it? The Nokia N97 has hundreds of different product codes for all the different carrier types and countries around the globe. This product code is used by the Nokia Software Updater to load carrier specific firmware to your device when it becomes available. Unfortunately, some carriers prevent updates as they do not approve every firmware builds. This means that some users will not get the full benefits of the latest updates from Nokia when everyone else gets access to them, such as the recent update to Ver.12 fo the firmware.

UK Government Minister Interviewed on Future of the Legal Profession

I highly recommend reading the transcript of the CNBC interview of Lord Bach – Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Ministry of Justice. Lord Bach covers many of the issues I have discussed on this blog numerous times in the past, namely: liberalization of the Indian legal profession; deregulation of U.K. and other common law jurisdictions; introduction of multi-disciplinary practices; access to justice via “Tesco Law” (commoditized legal services); technology and the legal profession; and of course, legal process outsourcing

Low Value Personal Injury Claims Ripe for Outsourcing

The UK’s Ministry of Justice confirmed yesterday that a new streamlined claims process has been agreed for road traffic accident (RTA) personal injury claims valued between £1000 and £10,000. According to the MoJ statement ( click here ): “The new process would provide for early notification of claims; promote early admissions of liability and early settlements; and remove duplication of work from the process.” The original manifestation of fixed fees for personal injury claims came into being on 6th October 2003. Let me digress for a moment and take the opportunity of explaining briefly how the fixed cost system works. Generally speaking, in the U.K., attorneys’ fees are not recoverable from a client’s damages. The fees are recovered from the losing party, in addition to recoverable damages

Nokia’s very first 8 mega pixel shooter. We’ve been waiting for a move up from 5 MP since the original N95, was it worth the wait? Every now and again the perfect storm of device loans starts to form. In the last couple of months, thanks to Matt from All About iPhone and Steve from All About Symbian I have been able to trial the Samsung i8910 HD and the Nokia N86. Couple these devices with my own Apple iPhone 3GS and a friends N97 and I had the makings of an epic shoot out! I’ll start with a test of photographic detail in normally lit conditions.

It’s Harvest Time in Central/Eastern Europe

TEAM International is up with its latest summary of the Q1 2009 results for the CEE region. All in all, Central and Eastern Europe is positioned as an attractive IT offshore and nearshore outsourcing destination, with a number of bulleted conclusions and figures to support the finding. The major achievement is that there’s no doubt that CEE is no more a rising star, but a competent player in the software market. Here are the other conclusions drawn as a result of thorough research works: • More clients from Western Europe are choosing nearshoring IT functions to their less developed European neighbors rather than outsourcing to traditional Asian destinations. Organizations are no longer satisfied with just low-cost and are focusing on vendors’ competence, high-tech know-how and staff integration.

3 MiFi Dongle – The Hardware

After yesterdays little Sneak Peak , here’s a more informative and closer look at the MiFi dongle which 3 have kindly let me trial. The device itself is very curvaceous and small, the front is a brushed metallic look, but is plastic whilst the back itself is shiny white plastic. We can see here it’s made by Huawei and the model number is E5830 and is WiFi certified – good good. On the sides we have a few buttons to operate the device itself, which include Power, Wifi/WPS toggle, Online toggle and on the opposite side a MicroSD slot to enable sharing files via WiFi across the connected devices

INQ Picks Android

“Facebook Phone” Maker Poised for Popularity Late last week, INQ announced that they have plans for next year to produce a phone using Android’s mobile platform. The announcement came during the Mobilize 09 Conference when Frank Meehan, founder and leader of the nascent technology company, explained that “Android was really most suited for our plans with touch-screen devices.” INQ’s previous smartphones have used the Palm OS platform, thus leading to the assumption that they were going to continue doing so for future phones. Not so.
