Facebook for Android -coming soon

The summer holiday season being in full swing, it is that time of the year when ‘real’ news gets replaced with products of the rumour mill. Speculation over what the future may bring once the industry movers and shakers are back in their office seats is rife. One rumour to have recently hit the web is the launch of a new Facebook app for the Android platform. This would be a logical step for Facebook, having recently announced the launch of a revamped iPhone application (which will allow video uploads in addition to current photo uploads).

Sprint misleading the public about launching 4G in the USA.

Looks like Sprint has some marketing people on whacky weed as they have issued various press releases that they have deployed 4G in the USA which they claim is using WiMAX ( www.sprint.com/4G ). WiMAX is NOT a 4G standard. At the time of this post there is no recognised international standard of what is the next evolution of 3G called “4G” for Fourth Generation. Various industry associations such as 3GPP ( http://www.3gpp.org ) are investigating putting forward technologies such as LTE Advanced as a 4G technology, but the battle is far from over as to what will become the final standard.

N86: Day 2. Night Video

How does the ‘fully optimised LED unit’ perform as a video light? If you haven’t done so already, please head over to Nokia Conversations and check out the article, ‘Being flash isn’t always the answer’ . It includes some excellent observations from both Damian Dinning (N86 Team Leader) and N82 users alike. One thing is quite clear, the N86 has been optimised for photography, and more specifically low light photography. Some of the decisions that Damian and his team have made make the N86 a superior video capture device.

Demonstration of Windows Phone OS aka Windows Mobile 6.5

Here’s a video of Microsoft’s answer to the iPhone OS and they’ve dubbed it “ Windows Phone ” – no longer Windows Mobile. If we’re still talking Windows Mobiles versions, this would have been version 6.5. I like how they’ve fixed the Start Menu, which although previously aesthetically consistent with the PC operating system, for the small screen it was hard to select options and was sometimes confusing. The new large icon approach is much more intuitive and simpler to use. Also like the “My Phone” functionality which backs up all your data to some off site server which allows for easily data upload / download and also re-setup of new Windows devices.
